According to foreign media reports, Austrian technology company Miba has developed a battery cooling system for electric vehicles that can adapt to the shape of the battery, opening up new paths for the design of battery packs.

One of the most important challenges facing developers in the development of electrically powered vehicles is the thermal management of the battery, which is crucial to the vehicle's range and the battery's service life, and is also a necessary condition for fast charging. The current development trend is liquid cooling, but the main challenge encountered in development is how to establish the best thermal connection between the battery and the radiator. The Austrian technology group Miba has developed a cooling system FLEXcooler with a very flexible shape that can be adapted to any battery.

Miba FLEXcooler connects the battery tightly to it and is the only liquid cooling system on the market that can absorb and dissipate heat. The new system does not require fillers to fill the gap between the battery and the cooling system. In addition, Miba FLEXcooler is very light and can be used for diamond-shaped batteries, cylindrical batteries and battery packs.

Currently, Miba is working with a European car manufacturer and other partners on the EU research project "i-HeCoBatt" (heating and cooling solutions for improving the range of electric vehicle battery packs) to equip the FLEXcooler with sensors to make it intelligent. The sensor provides the car's control system with information about the battery's temperature distribution, allowing the battery to control and optimize its functions during operation, ultimately improving the battery's performance and extending its service life.
