There is a popular term in the American automobile industry, "hypermiler", which literally means "super fuel-saving", meaning those drivers who pay great attention to fuel saving. When you communicate with such a driver, he will do everything he can to tell you his driving experience and how to save fuel better.
However, when you tell them that today's cars are so smart that these experiences are useless, they may not believe it. In fact, it is true.
Audi recently tested an Audi A6 sedan in Las Vegas, USA. The car was equipped with Audi's Audi Online prototype system, which can "communicate" with local traffic lights and make reasonable predictions about changes in traffic lights, thereby helping drivers to drive reasonably and ultimately achieve the goals of fuel saving and emission reduction. It is reported that the carbon dioxide emissions of the test car can be up to 15% lower than those of vehicles not equipped with the system.
The test car's central control display screen will display the traffic light information ahead and prompt the driver to reach the speed required to successfully catch up with the next green light, avoiding unnecessary acceleration/braking actions by the driver.
In addition, when waiting for a red light, the connection system in the test car can calculate the duration of the red light ahead and cooperate with the vehicle's start-stop system to start the engine 5 seconds in advance.
Although Audi currently only installs this technology in this test car, Audi said that this technology can be equipped in any Audi brand car in the future.
