In order to cope with the seasonal peak in electricity consumption, this summer State Grid Zhejiang Electric Power promoted large-scale "vehicle-grid interaction" practices, organizing 33,000 public charging piles to assist the grid in shifting peak loads in the form of virtual power plants, and enabling all types of charging facilities such as private, public, public transportation, solar storage and charging, and V2G to participate in "vehicle-grid interaction" in a centralized manner.

According to statistics, from August 5 to 8, Zhejiang's "vehicle-grid interaction" responded to a total of 1.63 million kWh of electricity and achieved a maximum peak load reduction of 115,300 kW, providing the power grid with a load regulation capacity of more than 100,000 kW.

On August 5, Quzhou Public Transport Group used the charging management platform to adjust the original peak and peak hours to off-peak and off-peak hours, taking into account factors such as the distribution of charging piles, vehicle parking, power requirements of different models, full charging time, and the next day's schedule. That night, 1,900 kilowatts of load were adjusted to help the power grid shift peaks. "Off-peak charging does not affect the power demand of vehicles, and at the same time reduces charging costs," said a relevant person in charge of Quzhou Public Transport Group.

Recently, in Xiaoshan, Hangzhou, Zheng Cheng, a new energy vehicle owner, also experienced the "car-grid interaction" application of "charging, discharging and swapping". He used the State Grid's "e-charging" App to start discharging, and through a 60-kilowatt V2G charging pile (i.e., electric vehicles supplying electricity to the grid), he "fed back" the remaining 60 degrees of electricity in the car's battery to the State Grid in about an hour. Zheng Cheng said that he fully charged the vehicle with "valley electricity" at night, and then transmitted the electricity in the car's battery back to the grid during the "peak electricity" period during the day, earning the "price difference".

In addition, this summer State Grid Zhejiang Electric Power also launched the "Electric Vehicle Charging One Hour Later Initiative" to add flexible force to ensure the supply of electricity during the peak summer season.

Ji Qian, deputy director of the Market Intelligence Department of the State Grid Zhejiang Electric Power Marketing Department, said: "Under the guidance of the peak and valley electricity prices for residential charging piles, the peak of charging load generally starts to rise from 21:45. After the valley electricity price starts at 22:00, the charging load starts to run at a high level. Considering that the electricity consumption of the whole society is still at a peak before 23:00 during the peak summer period, we orderly guide users who can make appointments to adjust their charging time periods to promote the postponement of the peak of charging load."

After a series of measures were taken to guide the trend, a total of 406,000 new energy vehicle owners in Zhejiang adjusted their charging times, with the daily charging load shifted back by more than 500,000 kilowatts. (Chen Lisha/Text)
