China Energy Storage Network News : On May 15, Kunshan Electrochemical Energy Storage Power Station began pouring the roof of the No. 1 on-site step-up transformer room, and the main civil construction work entered a critical stage. It is understood that the company plans to build a grid-side "energy storage group" consisting of three energy storage power stations in Suzhou by the end of this year, with a charging and discharging power of 138,600 kilowatts and a total capacity of 242,000 kWh.

In 2018, the peak load of Suzhou power grid reached 2662.8 kWh, and the annual power consumption reached 156.25 billion kWh, which is 1.5 times the annual power generation of the Three Gorges Power Station. "After the completion of the 'energy storage group', it can effectively play a role in regulating the contradiction between power supply and demand and ensure the safety and reliability of power supply in Suzhou power grid," said Xie Zhenjian, deputy director of the Planning and Development Research Center of the State Grid Jiangsu Economic Research Institute.

State Grid Suzhou Power Supply Company and State Grid Jiangsu Economic Research Institute focused on urban development planning and determined the scale and geographical location of three energy storage power stations. Among them, the capacity of Kunshan Energy Storage Power Station is 193,600 kWh, which can meet the development needs of the local 100 billion-level cluster IT industry; the capacity of Changshu Renyang and Zhangjiagang Leyu Energy Storage Power Stations are 13,200 kWh and 35,200 kWh respectively, which can alleviate the pressure during local peak electricity consumption. "In addition to regional power supply and demand regulation, after the completion of the three energy storage power stations, they will all be connected to a large-scale source-grid-load-storage friendly interactive system, and can be interconnected and coordinated through the 220 kV power grid to achieve unified action in an emergency." Xie Zhenjian introduced.

The construction of three energy storage power stations will realize "turning waste into treasure". In view of the developed economy and precious land resources in Suzhou, the company used the retired 220 kV Kunshan substation, Changshu 35 kV Renyang substation and Zhangjiagang 35 kV Leyu substation to build energy storage power stations. "According to preliminary design calculations, this can save nearly 28,600 square meters of land and save about 43 million yuan in investment." said Tao Yewei, director of the Development and Planning Department of Suzhou Power Supply Company.

Moreover, the designers of the State Grid Jiangsu Economic Research Institute evaluated the status of the retired substations and planned to use the original buildings and equipment in the substations as much as possible. "For example, although the original wall of the substation was old and damaged, its foundation could still be used, reducing the cost of demolishing the foundation and rebuilding it. This alone saved nearly 500,000 yuan," said Wang Qiu, director of the substation room of the Economic Research Institute's design center.

Suzhou's "Energy Storage Group" was fully integrated into the concept of ubiquitous power Internet of Things construction at the beginning of planning. "We have fully considered the functional expansion in the design of energy storage power stations in combination with the high-reliability power supply needs in Suzhou." Wang Qiu introduced that the designers of the State Grid Jiangsu Economic Research Institute unified the communication interfaces of all equipment such as the battery management system, monitoring system, and converter of the Suzhou power grid side "Energy Storage Group", which can realize the sharing of data such as active power control, reactive voltage control, time synchronization and monitoring, and network security monitoring.

"After the completion of the 'energy storage group', an open, shared and flexibly accessed platform will be built as the basis for the ubiquitous power Internet of Things. We can explore the creation of an energy integrated service station with the functions of 'energy storage station + data center + N' to achieve energy and data integration and sharing as well as integrated energy services." said Gao Zhengping, director of the Planning and Development Research Center of the Economic Research Institute.
