Pittsfield, Massachusetts - December 6, 2011 - Today, SABIC Innovative Plastics, a business unit of Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC), announced the launch of a new high-performance Lexan EXL copolymer resin to respond to the trend of miniaturization of photovoltaic (PV) connectors and junction boxes. The new Lexan EXL resin has enhanced electrical properties and flame retardancy, allowing designers to greatly reduce the volume of the entire system by making thin-walled parts, making conductor layouts more compact, and integrating junction boxes into them, which helps reduce solar energy costs and improve efficiency. The new Lexan EXL resin can greatly increase the advantages of photovoltaic systems, promote the development of the solar industry, and thus consolidate customers' competitive position.

The photovoltaic market is one of the most promising industries in the world, with a compound annual growth rate of more than 20%1. As a viable and growing renewable energy source, the market has received widespread attention. Andrew Kodis, marketing director of the solar division of SABIC Innovative Plastics, said: "SABIC's professional materials enable our photovoltaic customers to upgrade solar energy into an economical and efficient environmental solution. Environmental trends such as renewable energy require breakthrough technologies to achieve economic feasibility. Our focus on the photovoltaic market reflects SABIC's active commitment to environmental trends. Our broad range of materials can promote sustainable development in many different ways, especially through new design methods."
