So what exactly is a pulse? Literally, it is the shock wave generated by the beating of the pulse. The definition of a pulse is actually this:
the wave of voltage (V) or current (A) is like the waveform of the beating of the pulse on the electrocardiogram. But what about the power pulse, sound pulse, etc. that we hear now? The original meaning of the pulse has been extended to: a mechanical form such as a wave emitted at the same interval. Academically, a pulse is defined as: a physical quantity that suddenly changes in a short period of time and then quickly returns to its initial value is called a pulse.
From the definition of a pulse, it is not difficult to see that a pulse has the characteristic of intervals, so we can regard a pulse as a signal. The definition of a pulse signal is derived from this:
compared with a continuous signal, a signal that occurs in a short period of time in the entire signal cycle, there is no signal in most signal cycles. Just like a human pulse. Now it generally refers to a digital signal, which has a signal for half of the time (or even longer) in a cycle. The signal in a computer is a pulse signal, also called a digital signal.

Pulse signal: A voltage or current that changes suddenly in an instant and has a very short action time is called a pulse signal. It can be periodically repeated, or it can be non-periodic or single.
Pulse reactor: A reactor that can reach a supercritical state in a very short time interval, thereby generating very high pulse power and strong neutron flux, and can be safely and reliably repeated many times. It is divided into two categories: thermal neutron pulse reactor and fast neutron pulse reactor. China has built a uranium-zirconium hydrogen pulse reactor, which is a reactor using uranium-zirconium hydrogen as fuel. It mainly uses hydrogen as a moderator. When the power increases, the temperature will increase, the moderation effect of hydrogen will weaken, and the reactivity will immediately decrease. The reactor has a large instantaneous negative temperature coefficient, so it operates in a pulsed manner. In addition to being used for training personnel, conducting research work and producing short-lived radioactive isotopes, pulse reactors can also be used for cancer treatment, neutron photography, activation analysis, and irradiation of fuel and materials.
Pulse power supply: The user's load needs to be powered on intermittently, that is, according to a certain time rule, the load is powered on for a certain time, and then the power is cut off for a certain time. One on and off forms a cycle. Repeated execution of this process forms a pulse power supply. For example, in the aging process of non-polar electrolytic capacitors, it is necessary to charge the capacitor forward for a period of time, then discharge it, then charge the capacitor in the reverse direction for a period of time, and then discharge it, so that forward → discharge (power off) → reverse → discharge → forward..., and so on.
Pulse width: It is the duration of the high level. It is often used as a sampling signal or a trigger signal for components such as thyristors.
Pulse circuit: It is a circuit for generating, shaping and transforming pulse waveforms. The pulse circuit consists of two parts: an inert circuit and a switch. The function of the switch is to destroy the steady state and make the circuit transient.
Pulse dialing: It is a time domain processing method that uses the number of pulses to represent the number. The pulse dialing method has strict requirements on the width, size, spacing, and shape of the pulse. If these parameters change due to line interference or other reasons, it may cause errors in number reception. On the other hand, since each pulse occupies a certain time (generally each pulse occupies 100ms), this dialing method is relatively slow.
Pulse heating: It uses pulse currents of various waveforms to heat in an intermittent manner to meet some special process requirements.
Pulse wave: It is a signal waveform generated in the form of an impact.
