Sisvel recently announced that more than twenty companies are currently participating in the preparation of the LTE/SAE (Long Term Evolution/System Architecture Evolution) patent pool promoted by it. The first preparatory meeting kicked off in Frankfurt on February 2. Participants in the LTE patent pool preparatory meeting represent all relevant industries, including telecommunications companies (equipment suppliers, network equipment providers and operators), consumer electronics and integrated circuit manufacturers, and research institutions from China, Japan, South Korea, Europe and North America.
Sisvel's own technical capabilities and its ability to tailor LTE licensing programs through a transparent and comprehensive process were important factors in bringing together essential patent owners. "Sisvel's patent collection has been a great success. The number and breadth of essential patent owners attending tomorrow's meeting will provide a unique opportunity to further advance the construction of a licensing platform for this emerging technology," said Giustino de Sanctis, Managing Director of Sisvel Germany, GmbH.
Mr. de Sanctis further stated: “A broad-based open LTE/SAE patent pool will promote the adoption of LTE technology, make the licensing process more efficient, and ensure the emergence of a healthy and stable LTE ecosystem. This is also the right time for patent owners to contribute their ideas on the design and management of such a patent pool. Sisvel encourages every essential patent owner to join Sisvel’s patent pool planning process and contribute to the creation of such an important patent pool.”
Sisvel invites all patent holders who believe they have LTE/SAE essential patents or patent applications to contact Sisvel to arrange for an independent assessor to assess patent essentiality. For detailed information on patent submissions and other procedures for participating in the patent pool, please contact Sisvel at LTE@sisvel.com.
Introduction to LTE/SAE
LTE (Long Term Evolution) is the evolution of the 3GPP standard for land mobile communications. It will provide higher transmission rates and enhanced user experience, mainly in high-speed data services. SAE (System Architecture Evolution) is an improvement in packet switching technology designed to accommodate the rapid growth of IP traffic. LTE/SAE forms the basis of the 3GPP Release 8 specification.
