MIPS Technologies and SySDSoft announced that they will collaborate to enable LTE technology on the MIPSTM architecture. SySDSoft, a new member of the MIPS Alliance Program, is working closely with MIPS Technologies to provide MIPS licensees with an optimized MIPS32 LTE protocol stack that runs on a variety of MIPS processor cores. SySDSoft will initially port its proven software stack to the MIPS32 24K processor core and will present the initial results of this collaboration at the Mobile World Congress 2010 in Barcelona.
MIPS Technologies has multiple licensees in the LTE and WiMAX space, developing multiple WiMAX chipsets and upcoming LTE handset and base station designs. The collaboration between MIPS Technologies and SySDSoft complements the work already done by many MIPS licensees by providing fully tested and verified MAC and PHY software designs, accelerating time to market. There will be multiple MIPS-Based WiMAX and LTE demonstrations during the Mobile World Congress.
"SySDSoft is renowned for the quality of its software solutions and is an ideal partner as we move into the mobile market," said Art Swift, vice president of marketing at MIPS Technologies. "As the global wireless industry moves to 4G, these high-bandwidth standards are very similar to the wireless technologies in which MIPS Technologies already has a presence. We are excited to provide proven mobile solutions that support this trend and help our customers get to market quickly."
Khaled Ismail, CEO of SySDSoft, said: "We are very pleased to work with MIPS to help MIPS licensees develop 4G phones. SySDSoft has mobile WiMAX and LTE stacks, and the 4G stack is unique. Our software stack provides excellent processing efficiency, supports very high data rates, and brings many differentiating features to baseband chipset vendors. We believe that using our technology will be able to show the benefits of the MIPS architecture in various benchmarks such as 4G data compression, performance, channel utilization, etc."
