At present, modern residential meter reading systems mainly include IC cards and wireless remote meter reading, each with its own advantages. With the rapid development of microelectronics technology and the promotion of relevant national policies, the intelligentization of civil metering instruments has become an inevitable development direction. Due to the shortage of water resources in my country, tiered water prices are the basic means to ensure the balance between water supply and demand. However, at present, the backwardness of water metering methods has become the biggest obstacle to the implementation of tiered water prices.

The prerequisite for implementing the tiered water price for residents is that each household has a meter and the meter is read at the household. However, the mechanical water meters installed in most of the houses in China are far from meeting this requirement. Installing wireless remote water meters is the most realistic means to achieve tiered water prices.
As the technology matures later than IC cards, wireless remote water meters are still in the market development stage. However, due to simple construction, relatively low cost, accurate and reliable measurement, real-time monitoring, and the gradual improvement of prepayment functions, they have quickly carved out their own share of the big market pie.

At the beginning of the marketization of water, electricity and coal utilities, the smart IC card meter reading system was extremely popular. However, once the IC card meter fails or the funds in the meter are used up, the valve will be shut off and the water will be cut off. With the gradual use of water and coal IC card meters and the feedback from users, the failure rate has greatly increased, and the water company cannot monitor the water and gas usage of users in real time.
Recently, 200,000 households in Kunshan had serious problems with the system and meters, and the failure rate was very high. They turned to the remote transmission system, but it was a huge cost to discard the original card meters that were not completely damaged. The smart IC card meters and systems that had been used for a short time but were full of failures became the "chicken ribs" of the local water supply management department.

Knowing this demand, Liaoning Minsheng Intelligent Instrument Co., Ltd. boldly envisioned the wireless remote transmission transformation of IC cards based on the objective conditions of partial failure of card meters and the cost of remote transmission. On the basis of not discarding the original intact IC card meters, it embedded its own wireless communication module into the IC card meters and created an IC card remote transmission system. This not only allows the original fault-free IC card meters to be used normally, but also uses the remote meter reading system to realize a series of remote meter reading functions, achieving the optimal combination of card meters and remote meters.
Based on the above ideas, Liaoning Minsheng Intelligent Instrument Co., Ltd. quickly launched a project to carry out model modification experiments and continuously explore feasibility operations. With the collaborative efforts of the R&D department staff, Liaoning Minsheng Intelligent Instrument Co., Ltd. has successfully produced 10 card meter remote transmission meter samples specially modified based on the actual situation in Kunshan, and went to Kunshan to complete the sacred and glorious mission. They successfully passed the test and verified the feasibility of the card meter remote transmission meter. The next large-scale pilot work will also be in full swing.

Kunshan is one of the first cities to transform the card meter reading system, but the various problems that have emerged over the years have begun to gradually expand. In comparison, the maintenance, depreciation, service and operating costs of wireless remote transmission are much lower than those of card meters, which is absolutely beneficial to developers; remote meter reading of electricity meters, water meters, gas meters, water purification meters and hot water meters is a convenience that card meters can never achieve, and it is what owners are looking forward to; wireless remote meter reading can grasp the amount of water and gas used in real time and the different changes in each period, timely monitoring, and convenient scheduling and management, which makes water, electricity and gas management departments love it! The remote meter, which has learned from
the experience and lessons of various meter reading systems and has its own characteristics, has gradually begun to take the stage. If the pilot is successful, it will be the best solution for remote transmission transformation based on the card meter system, and it will also become the most economical and efficient choice for the transformation of problematic card meter projects. By then, the trend of wireless remote transmission transformation of card meters will be irreversible, and wireless remote transmission will also lead the development direction of energy measurement and become the absolute best choice for meter reading.
