Selection of soldering iron tip model

Choice of soldering iron tip: There are many sizes of soldering iron tips, but they can be summarized into four types: pointed, flat, horseshoe and knife. It is very important to choose the right size and shape of soldering iron tip. Choosing the right soldering iron tip can make work more efficient and increase the durability of the soldering iron tip.

The pointed type includes type I and type B: Type I features: The tip of the soldering iron tip is fine. Application range: Suitable for fine welding, or in narrow welding space, and can also correct the solder bridge generated when welding chips. Type B features: The type B soldering iron tip has no directionality, and the entire front end of the soldering iron tip can be used for welding. Application range: Suitable for general welding, regardless of the size of the solder joint, the type B soldering iron tip can also be used

Flat types include 0.8D, 1.2D, 1.6D, 2.4D, 3.2D, etc.
Features: Use the nozzle part for welding. Application range: Suitable for welding that requires a large amount of tin, such as welding environments with large welding areas, thick terminals, and large pads.

Horseshoe type includes 0.5C, 0.8C, 1C, 2C, 3C, 4C, etc.
Features: Use the front bevel of the soldering iron tip for soldering, which is suitable for soldering that requires a large amount of tin. Application range: The application range of C-type soldering iron tip is similar to that of D-type soldering iron tip, such as large soldering area, thick terminals, and large solder pads. 0.5C, 1C, 1.5CF and other soldering iron tips are very fine and suitable for soldering small components, or correcting tin bridges and tin columns generated during surface soldering. If soldering only requires a small amount of solder, it is more appropriate to use a CF-type soldering iron tip that is only tinned on the bevel. 2C and 3C soldering iron tips are suitable for soldering components such as resistors and diodes, and can also be used for SOP and QFP with larger pitch. 4C is suitable for thick terminals and grounding on circuit boards. Power supply parts and other welding occasions that require greater heat.

Knife-type and K-type features: Use the knife-shaped part for welding, vertical or pull welding, and it is a multi-purpose soldering iron tip. Application range: Suitable for SOJ, PLCC, SOP, QFP, power supply, grounding components, correct solder bridges, connectors, etc.

You will get twice the result with half the effort if you choose the right soldering iron tip according to your actual situation.
