Low clamping voltage TVS application on USB3.0 interface

The USB3.0 standard was established in January 2008. The data transfer rate reaches 5Gbps per second, which is 10 times faster than USB2.0. A 25G high-definition DVD can be transferred within 70 seconds, but if the USB2.0 specification is used, it will take 13 minutes. The application areas of USB3.0 will expand from traditional personal computers to home appliances.

As the speed of USB3.0 is very fast, the ESD protection of the port is becoming more and more important, which requires that the protection device should not affect the signal quality. For this reason, Semtech, as a leader in TVS manufacturing, has launched a new TVS, RClamp3324T, which has a low capacitance of 0.3pF. In the application of USB3.0, it does not affect the signal integrity. Its biggest advantage is the very low ESD clamping voltage (under 8KV contact static conditions, the clamping voltage is below 60V), which plays a good protective role for sensitive USB3.0 chips.
