Determining the polarity of the speaker

When audiophiles make, repair, and purchase speakers, they should pay special attention to the positive and negative poles of the speakers. When assembling a speaker, if the "+ -" poles are connected in reverse, the speaker will produce phase distortion.

When I repair speakers and sound boxes, I often see that the markings of domestic and foreign manufacturers of sound equipment are inconsistent. Here I introduce four methods to determine the polarity of speakers. First, use a 1.5V battery to touch the "+" and "-" ends of the speaker. The low-frequency speaker cone pushes up and down more, and the high-frequency speaker cone or diaphragm pushes less. The "+" pole of the battery is connected to the "+" end of the speaker. When the cone or diaphragm is pushed upward, the end of the battery "+" pole that touches is the "+" pole of the speaker. Second, use a pointer multimeter to touch the "+" and "-" poles of the speaker. Push the cone upward. The end connected to the red pen is the "-" pole of the speaker, and the end connected to the black pen is the "+" pole of the speaker. Third, in the repair and assembly of the sound equipment, the polarity can be determined from the winding direction of the voice coil, as shown in the figure. If it is wound in a clockwise direction, the head is the "+" pole and the tail is the "-" pole. If it is wound in a counterclockwise direction, the head is the "-" pole and the tail is the "+" pole. Fourth, place the DC 50uA range of the pointer multimeter on the "+" and "-" poles of the speaker, press the speaker's paper cone, and when the multimeter pointer swings clockwise, the red probe is connected to the "-" pole, and the black probe is connected to the "+" pole. When the multimeter pointer swings counterclockwise, the red probe is connected to the "+" pole, and the black probe is connected to the "-" pole.
