The MAX1437B is an 8-channel, 12-bit analog-to-digital converter (ADC) with fully differential inputs, a pipelined architecture, and digital error calibration for fully differential signals. The ADC is designed for low-power, high-dynamic performance medical imaging equipment and digital communication products. The MAX1437B is powered by a single 1.8V supply and consumes only 768mW (96mW per channel). At an input frequency of 5.3MHz, the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) can reach 70.2dB (typical). In addition to its own low-power characteristics, the MAX1437B also provides a shutdown mode during idle cycles.
An internal 1.24V high-precision bandgap reference is used to set the full-scale input range of the ADC, and a flexible reference architecture allows the use of an external reference to meet requirements for higher accuracy or different differential input voltage ranges. The reference architecture is optimized for low noise characteristics.
A single-ended clock is used to control the conversion process. An internal duty cycle equalizer compensates for clock duty cycle variations over a wide range. An on-chip PLL generates a high-speed serial low-voltage differential signaling (LVDS) clock.
The MAX1437B features serial LVDS outputs with self-aligned data, clock, and frame-alignment signals. The output data is represented in two's complement format.
The MAX1437B operates at sampling rates up to 50Msps. The device is available in a small 10mm x 10mm x 0.8mm, 68-pin thin QFN package with an exposed pad and is specified over the extended industrial temperature range (-40°C to +85°C).
