LCD has rapidly become a hot spot in the display market with its inherent advantages: ultra-thin thickness, no radiation, no flicker, and has occupied a considerable market share in the large-screen market. By introducing the technical characteristics of LCD itself and analyzing the recent breakthroughs in LCD technology and cost, we hope that users can have a certain understanding of LCD display walls, and when purchasing large-screen LCD display walls, they can closely follow their needs and reduce costs.
The imaging method of the LCD display wall determines that it has the following advantages: completely right angles, no so-called geometric distortion in CRT displays, no need for the complex electron gun structure in CRT displays, very small size, very low power consumption, zero radiation, and no flicker. These advantages have made LCD popular in the fastest time, and these advantages are also what users in all professional fields hope to use. However, in some technical indicators, LCD displays are inferior to CRT displays, such as response time and color richness. These shortcomings make it difficult for professional users to choose between LCD and CRT displays. Let's compare LCD displays with CRT displays in several major display performance indicators to see what differences make professional users hesitate in choosing LCD displays.
Response time
This indicator can be understood as the response speed to the input image signal. It is the sum of the time from black to white and from white to black at the same point on the panel. If the indicator is too long, "smearing" will occur when switching images quickly or playing videos, affecting the use. For CRT monitors, the response time is generally around 1ms, while for LCD monitors, the early LCDs were around 80ms. The long response time is the most troublesome problem in the use of LCDs. However, this problem has been basically solved. Now the latest LCD has a response speed of around 25ms. Although there is still a certain gap compared with CRT, when watching DVDs, 33 frames per second need to be displayed, that is, the response time should be less than 30ms (30ms=1000/33). For playing action games, such as the very demanding QUAKEIII, if you want to achieve no "smearing", the picture display speed should be above 60 frames per second, that is, the response time should be less than 16.6ms (16.6ms=1000/60). At present, the first-tier display manufacturers LG, BenQ and Samsung have launched LCD display products with a response time of 16ms. However, for most users whose main applications are surfing the Internet, office work, data processing and viewing video materials, LCD products with a response time of 25ms can fully meet their needs. Therefore, the main display manufacturers currently provide users with LCD products that support 16ms response time and LCD products that support 25ms response time.
Number of colors
The number of colors refers to the number of colors that a monitor can display. The higher the index, the richer the picture. In addition to response time, another important reason that affects professional users to buy LCD monitors may be the number of colors. Now CRT monitors can basically display 32-bit colors, that is, 232 colors, 4294967296. In the early days, LCD could only achieve 16-bit colors, about 65,000 colors, and in recent times, with the advancement of technology, LCD can display up to about 24-bit colors, about 16 million colors. If we look at it purely from the index, LCD is still a long way from CRT, but in fact, 16 million colors can also meet the needs of most applications.
In terms of technology development to enhance color performance, LG's ColoriFic technology is unique. ColoriFic adjusts the interval of applied voltage to make color changes more consistent, and separates the signal for transmission. After the signal enters the LCD display, the horizontal signal and the vertical signal are clearly separated during the transmission process to form a dual signal channel. The separated signal is more accurate when it is transmitted and processed to the LCD panel, so the color purity and clarity are effectively improved. In addition, ColoriFic technology has built-in display modes with a variety of color, brightness, contrast and sharpness combinations, such as Office, Internet, Movies, etc., for users to choose from, and also supports the real color output of multiple printing devices.
The new digital brightening technology recently launched by Philips mainly focuses on brightness enhancement and also supports adjustment of sharpness, contrast and color.
Viewing Angle
Compared with the large CRT screen, the LCD display wall has another disadvantage, that is, if the user tilts it at a certain angle, the image on the screen will not be clearly visible. Early users of laptop computers must have a certain experience of this. When using a laptop, the image on the screen is clearest when facing it directly. If the viewing angle is tilted to a certain angle, the image on the screen will not be clearly visible. The maximum angle at which the image on the screen can be clearly seen is the viewing angle. The viewing angle can be divided into horizontal viewing angle and vertical viewing angle. LCD developers have also made great efforts to address this shortcoming. Now the viewing angle of LCD can reach 140 degrees. In fact, no one actually looks at the screen at such a tilted angle. For professional users, most of them always face the screen directly.
As for the resolution, brightness, and contrast, LCD monitors and CRT monitors are basically the same. If the technical indicators of LCD monitors are completely acceptable, the only thing to consider is the price. Just a year ago, the price of large-screen LCDs was unacceptable, and it was tens of thousands of yuan. Now, with the mass production of LCDs and the reduction of costs, LCDs have reached a reasonable price. For a 17-inch LCD monitor, the current price is about 4,500 yuan. Don't ignore a problem here, that is, LCD monitors do not have an effective display area like CRT monitors. The effective display area of 17-inch LCD monitors is 17 inches, which is basically the same as the effective display area of 19-inch CRT monitors. The market price of 19-inch CRTs is about 3,000 yuan now, and the difference between the two is 1,500 yuan. The 1,500 yuan brings zero radiation and no flickering on the screen. For users in professional fields such as graphic/video design and publishing who need to stare at the screen for a long time, what a pleasure it is!
LCD display wall is a new type of display carrier that has gradually entered people's lives and work in recent years. It is popular among users because of its fashion, low radiation, energy saving, space saving, small splicing gap, stable and clear picture. With the launch of the market and the decline in prices, more users have the opportunity to use this product. Therefore, the display wall composed of LCD display units has begun to be promoted and applied by all walks of life. It has now become an indispensable display device in large exhibitions, public places, video conferences, multi-function halls, TV stations, entertainment, TV monitoring and other places.
Summarize:
In addition to the above indicators, when choosing a large-screen LCD monitor, you must be very selective and think calmly. First of all, choose a product with a high brand reputation. Excellent brands are backed by large-scale LCD panel factories. As the most important part of LCD components, LCD panels have always been the key to determining factors such as LCD quality and price. With advanced and reliable panel production lines as a backing, product quality and comprehensive services can naturally be guaranteed.
