How to adjust the equalizer
Sub-bass: 20Hz-40Hz, powerful when appropriate. Can control the sound of thunder, bass drum, organ and bass. Excessive boost will make the music muddy and unclear.
Bass: 40Hz-150Hz, is the basic part of the sound, its energy accounts for 70% of the entire audio energy, and is an important component of the performance of music style. When appropriate, the bass is relaxed and the sound is full and soft, but when it is insufficient, the sound is thin. 150Hz, when over-enhanced, the sound will be dull, the brightness will decrease, and the nasal sound will be enhanced.
Mid-bass: 150Hz-500Hz, it is the structural part of the sound, the human voice is located in this position, if it is insufficient, the singing voice will be drowned by the music, the sound is soft and weak, if it is properly increased, it will feel thick and powerful, and the strength and loudness of the sound will be improved. If it is increased too much, the bass will become stiff, and if the 300Hz is over-enhanced by 3-6dB, if reverberation is added, it will seriously affect the clarity of the sound. Midrange: 500Hz-2KHz, contains the low harmonics and overtones of most instruments, and is the characteristic sound of snare drums and percussion instruments. When it is appropriate, the sound is clear and bright, and when it is insufficient, the sound is hazy. If it is over-enhanced, it will produce a sound similar to a telephone.
Mid-high pitch: 2KHz-5KHz, which is the characteristic sound of string music (the sound of the bow and string of stringed instruments, the sound of the fingers touching the strings of plucked instruments). If it is insufficient, the penetration of the sound will decrease, and if it is too strong, it will mask the recognition of language syllables. Treble: 7KHz-8KHz, which is the frequency that affects the layering of the sound. Excessive enhancement will make the sound of piccolo and flute stand out, and the dental sound of language will be aggravated and the timbre will be rough.
Extremely high pitch: 8KHz-10KHz When appropriate, the metal sense of the triangle and stereo is highly transparent, and the rhythm of the sand clock is clearly discernible. Excessive enhancement will make the sound unnatural and easily burn out the high-frequency unit.

Balanced and pleasant sound should be: Below 150Hz (bass) should be full, soft and elastic; 150Hz-500Hz (mid-bass) should be strong and powerful without being turbid; 500Hz-5KHz (mid-treble) should be bright and clear without being harsh; Above 5KHz (treble) should be delicate, round and smooth without being sharp and harsh. When the entire frequency response is flat: the sound is naturally full and elastic, with clear layers and pleasant to the ear. When the frequency response has many peaks and valleys: the sound is rough and turbid, the treble is harsh and hairy, and feedback howling is prone to occur in sound reinforcement without a sense of layering.

Frequency characteristics: 30~60Hz Dull If there is no considerable loudness, it is difficult for the human ear to feel it. 60~100Hz Heavy Near 80Hz can produce a very strong "heavy" effect, and the loudness will not give people a comfortable feeling, but can give people a strong stimulation. 100~200Hz Full 200~500Hz Strength can easily cause a buzzing feeling. 500~1KHz Bright If the sound near 800Hz is increased by 10dB, it will obviously produce a sense of noise and narrowness. 1K~2KHz Transparent Near 2800Kz, the brightness is the most important. 2K~4Kz Sharp 6800Hz forms a whistling and sharp feeling. 4K~8Kz Crisp 3400Hz can easily cause listening fatigue. 8K~16Kz Delicate>7.5KHz sound is clear and delicate.
The development trend of equalizer
The equalizer composed of digital filters is called a digital equalizer. A digital equalizer can be made into a graphic EQ, a parametric EQ, or an EQ that combines both. It not only has excellent performance indicators and is easy to operate, but can also store frequency response equalization characteristics for various purposes for selection by different program requirements. It can store up to 99 frequency response characteristic curves. SONY's SRP-E300 is a multifunctional 2-channel digital equalizer with 10-band parametric equalization and 29-band graphic equalization. It can work simultaneously or independently, with limiter and noise gate functions, high-precision 48kHz sampling, 20-bit linear analog-to-digital/digital-to-analog conversion; with analog and digital input/output; RS-232C C interface, which can be used for external remote control. Its appearance will gradually eliminate ordinary analog equalizers. It is a product with extremely high cost performance in the field of professional audio reinforcement.
1. Most of the sounds in the frequency band of 20 to 40 feel like soft bass, not strong and powerful. You can know this through experiments. See what effect will be achieved by boosting this frequency band for the bass drum.
2. It is true that 40-150 is the basis of sound, but it definitely accounts for less than 70%, and the nasal sound of the human voice is not in this frequency band, it is probably around 250.
3. The frequency band of 150-500 is a frequency band that needs to be handled with great care. You must not increase the strength of the human voice by increasing this frequency band. If you are not careful, you will end up in trouble.
4. "If the 300Hz is over-boosted by 3-6dB and reverberation is added, the clarity of the sound will be seriously affected." It should be said that as long as reverberation is added to the low frequency part, the clarity of the sound will be affected. Of course, in today's mixing techniques, this rule is not very important. Because we often see them adding ultra-short-range reverberation to the floor drum and bass in recording studios in Europe, America, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
