AMR slot, what is an AMR slot, the appearance of an AMR slot
The AMR (Audio Modem Riser) specification is a set of open industrial standards initiated by Intel in 1998 and jointly developed by other related manufacturers. It aims to make the conversion circuit of digital signal and analog signal on a separate circuit card. Because before this, when the analog signal and digital signal on the motherboard were together, they would interfere with each other. The AMR specification integrates the sound card and modem functions on the motherboard, and at the same time isolates the digital signal and analog signal to avoid mutual interference. This not only reduces the cost, but also solves some functional limitations of the sound card and modem subsystem. Since the control circuit and digital circuit can be easily integrated in the chipset or on the motherboard, the interface circuit and analog circuit are difficult to integrate into the motherboard due to some reasons (such as electromagnetic interference and different electrical interfaces). Therefore, Intel has specially developed the AMR slot to transfer the analog circuit and I/O interface circuit to a separate AMR card, and other components are integrated in the chipset on the motherboard. The AMR slot is usually located near the PCI slot (white) on the motherboard. It is relatively short (about 5 cm) and brown in appearance. It can be connected to an AMR sound card or an AMR Modem card. However, since most integrated motherboards now have integrated AC'97 sound chips, the AMR slot is mainly used with the AMR Modem. However, since the AMR Modem card occupies more CPU resources than the general built-in soft Modem card, the use effect is not ideal, and the price is not much better than the built-in Modem card, so the AMR slot was quickly replaced by the CNR.
