For AVR microprocessors with timer/oscillator pins (TOSC1 and TOSC2), the crystal can be connected directly to these two pins without external capacitors. This oscillator is optimized for 32.768 kHz watch crystals. It is not recommended to input an oscillator signal to the TOSC1 pin.
