1. The 89C51 microcontroller is an 8-bit microcontroller. Its instructions use a complex instruction set called "CISC", with a total of 111 instructions. The MSP430 microcontroller is a 16-bit microcontroller that uses a reduced instruction set (RISC) structure, with only 27 simple instructions, a large number of instructions are analog instructions, and numerous registers and on-chip data memory can participate in a variety of operations. These core instructions are all single-cycle instructions, with powerful functions and fast running speed.
2. The 89C51 series microcontrollers have an 8-bit internal bus and their internal functional modules are basically 8-bit. Although their internal functional modules have increased significantly after various efforts, they are greatly limited by their own structure, especially the increase of analog functional components is more difficult. The basic architecture of the MSP430 series is 16-bit. At the same time, there is an 8-bit bus in its internal data bus after conversion. In addition, it is a hybrid structure. Therefore, for such an open architecture, it is very convenient to expand 8-bit functional modules or 16-bit functional modules, even to expand functional modules such as analog/digital conversion or digital/analog conversion. This is why the MSP430 series products and their functional components have increased rapidly.
3. Development tools. As for 89C51, it is the first microcontroller to enter China, and people are very familiar with it. In addition, with the efforts of people from all walks of life in my country, many development tools suitable for our use have been created. However, how to realize online programming is still a big problem. For the MSP430 series, the introduction of Flash program memory and JTAG technology not only makes the development tools simpler, but also the price is relatively low, and online programming can be realized.
4. The power supply voltage of the 89C5l microcontroller itself is 5V, and there are two low-power modes: standby mode and power-off mode. Under normal circumstances, the current consumed is 24mA, and in the power-off state, the current consumption is still 3mA; even in the power-off mode, the power supply voltage can drop to 2V, but in order to save the data in the internal RAM, it is still necessary to provide about 50uA of current. The superiority of the MSP430 series microcontroller in low power consumption is incomparable to the 89C5l series. Because of this, MSP430 is more suitable for battery-powered instruments and meter products.
