Rockwell Automation and Shanghai Climate Week jointly initiated the Climate Lighthouse Lighting Ceremony and Theme Forum in Shanghai

Going green and setting sail for a new global sustainable journey

(April 23, 2024, Shanghai, China) As one of the world's leading companies in industrial automation, information technology and digital transformation, Rockwell Automation, together with the Shanghai Climate Week Initiative, co-sponsored the Climate Lighthouse Lighting Ceremony and Theme Forum with Lingang Group, Hongkong Land, DTZ and Deloitte during the first Shanghai Climate Week. The event was held today at Orbit, the West Bund in Shanghai. With the theme of "Origin", at the event, Rockwell and partners from all walks of life jointly announced the official launch of the long-term action of Climate Lighthouse. Michael Adalla, Deputy Director of the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), Zou Rong, Co-Director of the Executive Committee of Shanghai Climate Week, and other guests delivered speeches to express their support and expectations for the action. As one of the representatives of the main initiators of the Climate Lighthouse Action, Shi An, President of Rockwell Automation (China) Co., Ltd., delivered a keynote speech on "Climate Lighthouse Leading Sustainable Development", and explored with guests from all walks of life the way to green transformation that connects the upstream and downstream of the industrial chain under the guidance of the Climate Lighthouse.

Qiyuan Lighthouse Green Digital Innovation Lights Up a Bright Future

As the global green process continues to accelerate, a series of green "new trends" such as sustainable lighthouse factories, value chain carbon neutrality, energy-saving buildings, and green transportation continue to emerge, driving the creation and implementation of many emerging technologies. In order to support more partners to lock in green development paths and key technologies and create more possibilities for sustainable development, the Climate Lighthouse Action focuses on four key areas of production and life: buildings, communities, manufacturing, and supply chains. It aims to start from these four areas and use green digital innovation to light up a better future for mankind.

As the opening chapter of this action, "A New Chapter of Climate Lighthouse: The Latest Insights on Cutting-edge Science and Technology on Climate Change" (hereinafter referred to as the "White Paper") was first released at the event. The White Paper was guided by the Shanghai Climate Week Research Institute, and jointly compiled by Rockwell, Shanghai Institute of Quality Management Science, Institute of Public and Environmental Affairs, DTZ, and the Global Smart City Conference, and drew on Deloitte's leading industry insights and the conclusions of global research reports.

Against the backdrop of climate urgency, disruptive technological innovation, and deep transformation of the entire industry chain, the white paper elaborates on the definition of climate beacons, which represent high-level practices of "enterprises achieve dimensional breakthroughs that take into account sustainability, production efficiency, and operating benefits through coordinated digital green transformation." It also summarizes cutting-edge trends and identifies key paths for climate beacons in the four major areas of buildings, communities, manufacturing, and supply chains. On the basis of macro guidance, the white paper focuses more on reality, and selects leading green practices in multiple industries based on five dimensions: end-to-end value realization, measurable green and low-carbon, scenario-based real use cases, revolutionary technological breakthroughs, and interactive innovation and exchange. In the future, Rockwell plans to work with partners to thoroughly sort out the details of the case practices included in the white paper and compile them into a book to provide more upstream and downstream partners with green inspiration for reference.

"Sustainable development has become a key issue that requires the joint collaboration of the global ecosystem. For manufacturing partners, it is an important entry point for them to participate in the process of reshaping the global supply chain." As one of the main representatives of the white paper, Shi An said, "Combined with Rockwell's rich cross-industry accumulation, we look forward to the convergence and sharing of more low-carbon scientific and technological achievements and use cases through the white paper, providing an endless source of scientific and technological innovation power for partners from all walks of life to join and promote climate action."

In order to give full play to the benchmark leadership of the Climate Lighthouse and further promote the cross-border promotion and multi-industry interaction of excellent use cases, a Climate Lighthouse Use Case Award Ceremony was held at the event. More than 20 advanced use case units from various industries such as new energy vehicles, life sciences, food and beverages, etc. won the award for their innovative, disruptive and highly convertible leading practices.

Talking about new green, The Paper Community works together to drive a sustainable ecology

As a long-term action plan, the Climate Lighthouse has made a series of progress, including the release of the Lighthouse framework and the optimization of advanced use cases. It plans to further promote the co-construction and co-creation of Climate Lighthouse standards and construction guidelines in the future, and use practical methodologies to help upstream and downstream partners in the industry chain to participate in the construction of the Climate Lighthouse, thereby jointly promoting the iterative upgrade and cross-border replication of benchmarks and accelerating the arrival of a net-zero future. To this end, the Shanghai Climate Week Executive Committee signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the co-organizers of the Climate Lighthouse event, including Rockwell, to lay a solid foundation for making great progress in the future. On this occasion, Rockwell also joined hands with multiple partners from scientific research, consulting, life sciences, automotive tires, consumer products and other industries to start a special discussion, and by gathering the rich experience and vitality of all parties, discuss the cutting-edge trends and development directions of future manufacturing and supply chains.

Rockwell has long been a leader in the field of green technology, fully implementing the SEEE (safety, energy saving, environmental protection, and efficiency) sustainable development concept in intelligent manufacturing. With its own innovative technologies and solutions including IT/OT (information technology/operational technology) integration, while actively promoting the implementation of emerging technologies such as 5G, artificial intelligence, industrial Internet, and edge computing, Rockwell not only uses scientific and technological innovation to help production links and enterprises reduce carbon emissions, but is also committed to integrating scientific and technological research and development applications with community ecological construction, in order to promote green chain transformation covering the entire upstream and downstream of the industrial chain.

Shi An said: "Relying on Shanghai Climate Week, an international climate-friendly discourse platform, Rockwell hopes to better play its leading role as the leader of the productive service industry chain, build the Climate Lighthouse into a bridge and link to gather global wisdom and resources, promote the application and promotion of green digital technology, and work with ecological partners to create a surging force for green development. In this process, we will also rely on our own high-quality global resource network to help more Chinese companies seize the huge opportunities contained in the green economy, achieve a qualitative change from saving to opening up, and lead to unlimited possibilities in the future."
