VersaLogic has expanded its industrial temperature range rugged Mini PCIe expansion offering with the new “C1” module. The new dual-channel CAN bus expansion board provides a way to add a high-speed CAN bus port to any embedded computer system, especially those in harsh environments.

CAN-FD and CAN 2.0A/B

The C1 supports CAN-FD and high-speed signaling up to 5 Mbps. It is also backward compatible with CAN 2.0 A and CAN 2.0 B with transfer rates up to 1 Mbps. The C1 supports a variety of CAN features, including message acceptance filters and listen-only mode.

CANopen Advanced Protocol

The C1 supports the Advanced CANopen protocol, which standardizes communication between devices and applications from different manufacturers and was developed for embedded systems used in automation, making it useful in applications such as industrial machinery, defense and aerospace, medical devices, and specialty vehicles such as trains, buses, mining trucks, first responders, and more.

2.5 kV Galvanic Isolation

The C1 provides 2.5 kV of signal isolation to protect the host and increase system resiliency.

Mini-PCIe Specification

The C1’s small form factor allows it to be added to a system with little impact on the overall solution size. It is ideal for size and weight optimized applications.

Industrial High Reliability

The C1 is built for any application that requires operation in extreme environments, and fully tested thermal management ensures reliable operation over the full industrial temperature range (-40° to +85°C). Latching connectors and MIL-STD-202H shock and vibration testing ensure performance under demanding conditions.

Small Volume Customization

The C1 is customizable, even for low OEM quantities. Customization options include conformal coating, revision locks, custom labels, custom testing and screening, and more.

Software Support

The C1 is compatible with multiple operating systems (such as Linux and Windows) and is supported by the VersaLogic Application Programming Interface (VersaAPI). Sample C code is provided to speed up initial software development time.

Long-term Availability

Like all VersaLogic products, the C1 Dual Channel CAN Bus Expansion Board is designed for high reliability and long-term availability (typical production lifecycle of more than 10 years). VersaLogic's design expertise makes the C1 a solution for both standard and environmentally challenged applications.

Pricing and Availability

The C1 (P/N: VL-MPEu-C1E) is available from VersaLogic and Digi-Key for $96 in OEM quantities.
