[ November 13 , 2023 , Munich, Germany] Infineon Technologies AG launches the first Qi2 magnetic power profile (MPP) charging transmitter solution, the REF_WLC_TX15W_M1 reference design kit, to help meet consumer demand for a more complete wireless charging user experience . Qi2 is a new standard released by the Wireless Power Consortium that redefines inductive wireless power transfer.
Qi2 Development Board
The reference design kit is highly integrated and optimized in size, with a diameter of less than 43 mm . It is a programmable wireless charging transmitter centered on the Infineon WLC1 controller, with the functions of WLC1 (supporting Qi2 and already available on the market). The IC integrates a flash microcontroller (MCU), a 4.5 V to 24 V DC input buck-boost converter controller, an inverter gate driver and factory-calibrated current detection, with analog protection peripherals, USB PD and LIN and serial interfaces to achieve efficient and intelligent power transmission.
The REF_WLC_TX15W_M1 is supported by ModusToolbox™ with code examples to help users take full advantage of the configuration capabilities of the IC. The 15 W Qi2 MPP solution development board is backward compatible with the Basic Power Profile (BPP), enabling receivers that do not support MPP to charge wirelessly at 5 W. In addition, the multi-path ASK demodulator and adaptive foreign object detection (FOD) make it a robust and safe wireless power solution.
“With the introduction of the Qi2 standard, our programmable solutions provide the industry with the flexibility needed to quickly adapt and deliver differentiated features for automotive and consumer applications,” said Ganesh Subramaniam, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Wired Connectivity Solutions Product Line at Infineon Technologies.
The wireless charging transmitter solution development board was demonstrated live for the first time at Infineon’s OktoberTech™ Silicon Valley event, an annual technology collaboration forum hosted by Infineon Technologies, which took place on October 25 at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View, California, USA.
Availability
The WLC1 transmitter controllers are available for order now, with the WLC1515 in an automotive-grade package and the WLC1115 in a consumer-grade package. The REF_WLC_TX15W_M1 solution development board is available on request.
