Advantech's Arm-based edge intelligent gateway helps energy storage companies build stable and efficient battery management system (BMS) solutions
In response to global warming, Advantech has integrated software, hardware, and services to develop edge intelligence solutions that can be applied to energy storage systems. Together with partners in the green energy industry chain, Advantech has effectively improved the efficiency of green energy use in homes, businesses, industrial areas, and cities, contributing to the pursuit of sustainable development.
Background of the project
The customer's energy storage cabinets are deployed in various regions around the world. When equipment fails, the operation and maintenance costs are very expensive. The customer hopes to ensure that the control system of the energy storage cabinet can operate stably and support disaster recovery, dual-machine hot standby and real-time online monitoring based on the Azure cloud platform.
Pain point requirements
The equipment is deployed in remote areas, with high operation and maintenance costs
The system cannot automatically recover after a failure
Unable to understand the working status and information of the equipment
The amount of data in the energy storage cabinet is huge, and the collection time is high
Advantech Solution Value
Unattended crash-proof operating system helps reduce remote equipment operation and maintenance costs
By providing a crash-proof operating system, we ensure that equipment in the wild can run stably and reliably 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, significantly reducing production losses and operation and maintenance costs caused by equipment downtime.
Efficient and real-time data collection and local storage to meet the stringent requirements of large data volume and real-time performance
The high-performance data processing mechanism completes the collection, processing, and conversion of 15K tags data into JSON format in just three seconds. It also provides a millisecond-level real-time database to meet the real-time storage of local data.
Supports data change upload, significantly reducing storage costs/saving network charges
Uploading data changes can significantly reduce the amount of uploaded data, minimize the load of data processing, reduce storage costs, save 4G network charges and cloud platform message costs
SDK and containerized environment make secondary development and application deployment easy
The SDK development interface can quickly implement secondary development based on customer needs, and at the same time quickly deploy customer applications through a containerized environment, providing customers with a flexible business expansion model.
Lightweight edge computing software + industrial-grade Arm gateway, a stable, reliable and cost-effective solution
Lightweight and efficient edge intelligence software, combined with industrial-grade Arm gateways, provides customers with a cost-effective solution that integrates software and hardware
Advantech RISC/Arm Edge Intelligent Gateway Solution
Advantech's RISC/Arm industrial computers/gateways are designed to be resistant to earthquakes and interferences in response to market demand. In particular, the design and verification of the wireless part of gateway applications are optimized, while providing RISC/Arm design verification support services. While simplifying the overall product design of customers, it can also improve the efficiency of customer product development and accelerate product launch. In addition, the product supports wide temperature environments and can be deployed in areas with harsh environments, providing reliable and stable hardware solutions.
In terms of software, Advantech's RISC/Arm edge intelligent gateway is compatible with DeviceOn.CommBridge developed based on Advantech's industrial IoT platform WISE-PaaS. CommBridge is an industrial application for device networking and edge computing. It provides functions such as data collection, protocol conversion, and device control, a rule engine that can customize computing logic, and a flexible and easy-to-use secondary development interface to cope with the complex and changing application needs of the edge intelligent industry and help customers achieve digital transformation and upgrading.
Application scenario 1: Operation and maintenance of a small number of energy storage cabinets
Application scenario 2: Cluster energy storage cabinet operation and maintenance
Advantages of DeviceOn/CommBridge:
Efficient: The high-performance data processing mechanism completes the collection, processing, and conversion of 15K Tags data into JSON format in just three seconds (EPC-R3220 Cortex A8); key point data supports millisecond-level collection; and can support simultaneous collection of multiple devices.
Lightweight: It can be used with the Arm gateway, with extremely low CPU and memory usage. It can also run customers' own edge computing programs, bringing high cost-performance.
*The Commbridge program is about 90M and runs on the EPC-R3220 gateway (Cortex-A8, 1GB DDR). When collecting and analyzing 10,000 data points, the CPU usage is only 2% and the memory usage is less than 5% (according to the actual test results of this application)
Flexible: Multi-level modular architecture design supports rapid expansion development and integration, flexibly responds to various scenarios of the Industrial Internet of Things, speeds up development progress, and reduces development costs
Rich: Supports multiple Linux operating system distributions; supports X86 and ARM hardware platforms (disadvantage: supports fewer acquisition protocols and docking cloud platforms/upload protocols)
