Vishay Expands Surface-Mount Multilayer Ceramic Chip Capacitors for High-Temperature Environments

Vishay  Intertechnology, Inc. has announced the expansion of its VJ X8R series of surface mount multilayer ceramic chip capacitors (MLCCs) for high temperature applications. To save board space, these devices are now available in the 0402 case size. In addition, the voltage of the 0603 and 0805 case size devices has been increased to 100V.

The Vishay Vitramon capacitors released today  are manufactured using precious metal electrode technology (NME) and wet processing. The devices use X8R dielectrics and can operate at high temperatures of +150°C. Typical applications for the devices include sensors, power supplies, and signal conversion in oil exploration, drilling monitoring, and industrial equipment. For hybrid applications, the devices can provide terminations assembled with conductive epoxy (termination code "E").

The VJ X8R series devices have a voltage rating of 100V, a capacitance range of 470pF to 390nF, and a capacitance temperature coefficient (TCC) of ±15% over a temperature range of -55°C to +150°C. The devices are RoHS-compliant, halogen-free, and meet Vishay's "green" standards. Samples of the capacitors are available now, and mass production is in place, with lead times of twelve to fourteen weeks.
