A solar-powered LED driver power supply circuit design

This article illustrates the application of a solar cell powered  LED  driver to an LED emergency flashlight. When the flashlight is off, the LTC3536 is in shutdown mode. Its sub-1μA quiescent current minimizes supercapacitor drain when ambient light is no longer available. When the LED flashlight is on, the LTC3536 is turned on through the SHDN pin to provide a constant load current of 105 mA to the LED. The LTC3536 regulates the output and LED current to guarantee 14 minutes of reliable illumination when the supercapacitor is charged up to 5V. The 14 minutes of guaranteed illumination can be extended by increasing the value of the supercapacitor or using a battery with appropriate charge control.
