National Semiconductor has announced the launch of three SIMPLE SWITCHER power modules that can drive high output voltages. These three new modules are targeted at a variety of product markets, including industrial systems, communication network infrastructure equipment, and military equipment. The three power modules, LMZ14201H, LMZ14202H, and LMZ14203H, are not only easy to use, but also provide the same efficiency as synchronous switching regulators, and the circuit design is as simple as that of linear regulators, so there is no need to add external inductors and complex circuit layouts like typical switching regulators.
The LMZ14201H, LMZ14202H and LMZ14203H power modules are suitable for input voltage rails ranging from 6 V to 42 V and provide an adjustable, high-precision output voltage up to 24 V. Engineers can adjust the switching frequency using only one resistor, which provides greater flexibility in circuit design.
In addition to being pin-compatible with other models in the same series, these power modules also integrate isolation inductors, making their efficiency up to 97%. The integrated inductor can reduce electromagnetic interference (EMI), making these power modules compliant with CISPR 22 Class B electromagnetic wave radiation and conducted emission standards.
The LMZ14201H, LMZ14202H and LMZ14203H power modules can drive 1A to 3A loads and are suitable for power supply systems using discrete point-of-load architectures (POLs) and can generate intermediate bus voltages in the system. Ultra-high efficiency and outstanding thermal performance make these three power modules ideal for systems where ventilation and heat dissipation are not possible. In addition, when these products are used in conjunction with special application circuits, a -15V bias supply can be generated, allowing audio amplifiers (such as National Semiconductor's LME49880 chip) to obtain a wider dynamic range.
Packaging, Pricing, and Availability
The new power modules from National Semiconductor are available in 7-pin packages that comply with RoHS standards, with a heat sink on the bottom and a size of only 10.67mm x 13.77mm x 4.57mm. All three chips are available in batches of 500 pieces, with the LMZ14201H chip priced at $6.50, the LMZ14202H chip priced at $7.50, and the LMZ14203H chip priced at $9.50.
