In order to convert all incoming video signals to the physical resolution of a fixed pixel display, manufacturers must integrate a video processing chip into the display. In addition to scaling the image to fit the physical resolution, the main function of this video processor is to enhance the image and eliminate artifacts caused by video transmission.
The video processor is a witness and iconic device to the birth, growth and maturity of the LED full-color display. LED-specific video processing equipment has also gradually matured in this process. The quality of the LED video processor directly affects the display effect of the LED display.
In general, an LED video processor is a video processor dedicated to LEDs. In simple terms, the task it needs to accomplish is to convert image signals from the outside (such as Blu-ray DVDs, computers, high-definition player boxes, etc.) into signals that can be accepted by LED displays. In this process, the LED video processor generally needs to complete the following processing:
1. Bit depth improvement: The grayscale level of current LED display screens has been improved to 16-bit and 17-bit, but most of the input signal sources are only 8-bit. Therefore, with the arrival of the high-definition display era, the application of 10-bit or even 12-bit processing technology in video processors has become a general trend.
2. Resolution specification conversion: Generally speaking, the signal resolution provided by image signal sources (such as Blu-ray DVD, computer, HD player, etc.) has fixed specifications (refer to VESA, ITU, SMPTE and other standards), while the modular splicing display of LED display makes its resolution almost any value. The video processor converts various signal resolutions into the actual physical display resolution of the LED display.
3. Scaling: During the resolution specification conversion process, the image needs to be scaled. Whether the resolution is increased or decreased, the complete image can be displayed on the screen.
4. Color space conversion: LED displays have a wide color gamut, while the color space of most image signals is relatively small (such as NTSC). In order for LED displays to have excellent image display effects, color space conversion must be performed.
5. Image processing and enhancement technology: Digital image processing technology has developed from the 1920s to the present, and a large number of patented technologies have emerged. For example, DCDi, ACC2, ACM3D and other patented technologies of Faroudja Laboratory, which won the Emmy Award. These technologies have undoubtedly greatly improved the visual effects of images.
