Infineon Technologies Launches Industry’s First Smart Alarm System with Integrated AI/ML Capabilities and Sensor Fusion
[Munich, Germany, August 18, 2022] Infineon Technologies AG recently announced that it will launch a battery-powered smart alarm system (SAS). This technology platform uses sensor fusion technology based on artificial intelligence/machine learning (AI/ML) to achieve high accuracy and ultra-low power consumption. Combined with a low-power acoustic event detection solution, it can bring excellent performance. Compared with the acoustic alarm systems currently used in smart buildings and smart homes, this compact smart alarm system not only has higher detection accuracy, but also has a battery life that is comparable to or even exceeds traditional solutions.
Infineon Smart Alarm System Evaluation Board and Reference Design
“We are excited to bring AI/ML capabilities to a battery-powered sensor system for home security in a unique and differentiated way that is both cost -effective and has a long battery life,” said Laurent Remont, Vice President of IoT and Sensor Solutions at Infineon Technologies’ Power and Sensing Systems division. “Current home security solutions on the market have some shortcomings, such as unreliable glass break detection. Our new solution combines many advanced technologies to create a smart, reliable and energy-efficient alarm system. We look forward to bringing more innovative solutions to the home security market.”
The solution uses Infineon's XENSIV™ analog MEMS microphone IM73A135V01 with high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), XENSIV digital pressure sensor DPS310 and PSoC™ 62 microcontroller . In addition, Infineon also provides users with sensor fusion software algorithms, which are based on accurately trained AI/ML models. By combining the data collected by microphone sensors and pressure sensors and analyzing them, it can accurately distinguish between sharp indoor sounds and some special audio or pressure changes. These changes occur when glass is broken or when home alarms are triggered by smoke alarms, carbon monoxide alarms, and intrusions detected through doors and windows.
AI/ML sensor fusion algorithms can also block out many other background noises or irrelevant pressure changes, thus avoiding false alarms.
Availability
Infineon Technologies' new smart alarm system will provide security for home life. The reference design of the system is now available and the reference board will be available in September 2022.
