Pay attention to whether the new lock matches the old door
Smart locks have many advantages over traditional mechanical locks. Although the domestic penetration rate is not high, with the strengthening of merchants' promotion efforts, many users have begun to accept and pay attention to smart locks, and their attitude towards smart locks has changed. At present, only some high-end apartments or houses will equip owners with smart locks, and most families still have to rely on self-replacement to use smart locks.
Four things to pay attention to before buying a smart lock
There are many domestic brands of anti-theft doors, and the specifications of each brand are different. Different brands of smart locks also support different doors. In addition, there are probably thousands of smart lock brands and models. You need to carefully compare and select the one that suits your home. You can't blindly pursue hot models. If you are planning to change your home to a smart lock, don't rush to buy it. First, figure out the following points.
1. Determine whether the material and thickness of the old door can be installed with a smart lock
There are certain requirements for the thickness and material of the door when installing a smart lock. Generally speaking, anti-theft doors with a thickness of 40mm-90mm can match most smart locks. Some wooden doors, iron doors, and glass doors with a thickness less than the normal range cannot be installed with conventional smart locks. You need to find some specific brands that make smart locks specifically for these doors.
Not all doors can be installed with smart locks
The type of old door lock also affects whether the smart lock can be installed. For example, an external door lock like a bull head lock is installed on the outside of the door body, while a smart lock requires the lock core to be embedded inside the door body. After removing the old lock, the lock core of the smart lock has nowhere to be placed, so it cannot be replaced.
Another thing to note is that when changing from a mechanical lock to a smart lock, you need to make some modifications to the door body, remove the old lock, and drill and cut holes in the door according to the installation requirements of the smart lock. This means that the door will be damaged to a certain extent and cannot be restored. Therefore, when choosing a smart lock, you must be very careful. If you don't choose the right one, you may have to change the door if you want to change back to a normal lock.
2. Check whether the smart lock supports the top and bottom hook
The sky hook is a bit awkward in the door lock industry. Currently, the locks with sky hooks on the market are basically linked to the main lock. For technical unlocking, as long as the main lock is opened, the sky hook will also be opened at the same time. Technically speaking, it has no anti-theft function at all. The existence of the sky hook actually just prolongs the time for violent demolition.
Most domestic brands of smart locks support top and bottom hooks. Locks that do not support top and bottom hooks can also be installed on doors with top and bottom hooks, but the linkage device of the top and bottom hooks will be removed, and the top and bottom hooks will become a decoration. If you care more about this, when choosing a smart lock, you should read the introduction in advance or consult the customer service to confirm that it supports top and bottom hooks before purchasing.
However, although some smart locks support top and bottom hooks, they only have one size of lock body. In this case, if the original mechanical lock body is larger, the top and bottom hooks cannot be installed. This is something you need to pay attention to when purchasing.
3. The more unlocking methods, the better
The biggest difference between smart locks and ordinary locks is that there are multiple ways to unlock them, but the more unlocking methods are not necessarily better. As long as it can meet your own needs, it is OK.
Retaining the traditional mechanical key unlocking method is the unified requirement of the Ministry of Public Security for smart locks. In addition, the more mainstream unlocking methods on the market currently include fingerprint, password, card swiping, APP or WeChat applet, and Bluetooth.
With the continuous development of electronic technology, some smart locks have developed various fancy unlocking methods, such as face scanning and palm print scanning. These unlocking methods sound very "high-end", but the more unlocking methods there are, the lower the safety factor.
The more unlocking methods, the better.
For example, some smart locks claim in their advertisements that bus cards, access cards, bank cards, and ID cards can be used as door opening cards. The principle of this method is to allow the smart lock to read and remember these cards, so there is a risk of card information being copied.
Another example is unlocking a door by scanning your face. Currently, facial recognition technology is not as mature as fingerprint recognition, and slight differences in recognition rate and speed will have a great impact on the user experience.
When purchasing a smart lock, you should of course look at the functions, but don’t just pursue new and fun functions and leave safety behind. No matter how smart a smart lock is, its function is still a lock that is used to protect the safety of the family.
4. After-sales service
It is not easy to judge the after-sales service. When you ask the merchant when buying a lock, the answer you get will definitely be "support, support, all support". However, you cannot experience after-sales service before purchasing. Therefore, if you want to see how the after-sales service is, you have to do more homework.
If your friends and family have used the target brand of smart lock, they will know it. You can also check the reviews of this lock on the e-commerce platform. When reading reviews, don't just look at the good ones, after all, there are many 50-cent party members. Mainly look for medium or even bad reviews, as well as additional reviews with a long interval.
After-sales service is important
In addition, you also need to see which company the brand belongs to, how big the company is, whether there is a unified after-sales service phone number, service outlets, etc. Although this seems to be a small matter, you can see the service capabilities of the company from this point. Some small manufacturers of smart locks do not have a complete after-sales service system. The more responsible ones will subcontract the after-sales service to dealers, and some even have no after-sales service at all. If you buy such a smart lock, it will be very troublesome if there is a problem.
