Vertical combustion tester

The main products include: automotive interior and exterior scratch testers, color and color evaluation, microscopic and forensic inspection, mattress testers, carpet testers, toy testers, humidity measurement & control systems, soil temperature and humidity meter accessories, textile and clothing, non-woven fabrics and geotextile testers, air permeability testers, one-way wear testers, leather and shoe material testers, filter material testers, vehicle testers, weathering and aging testers, highly accelerated aging test systems, oven environment equipment, light industry and packaging material testers, electronic and electrical testers, actinic spectrometers and other testers.

The vertical combustion tester is used to determine the flame retardancy, glow spread and carbonization properties of fabrics, children's clothing, foam, paper and other materials. The purpose of this manual is to provide guidance for the setup and use of the VFC. Please refer to the specific test method for sample preparation and test instructions

1. A gas burner, a modified Bunsen burner is provided for non-pajama test kits. The burner includes a flame height gauge and a light guide. For children's pajama test kits, an inclined side burner mounted on the side wall of the test chamber is provided.

2. Gas Connections. The gas mixture should be methane, 99% pure, or as specified in the applicable test method. If using a side burner, connect the gas supply line directly to the burner inlet through a customer-supplied pressure regulator. If using a Bunsen burner, connect your gas supply to a manual gas control unit and connect the output line of that unit to the burner inlet.

3. Position and flame height of Bunsen burner. Place the burner in a position so that the center of the burner barrel is directly below the center of the specimen. On the burner, relative to the pilot light tube, there is a metal flame height gauge spaced 13 mm (1/2 inch) from the barrel and extending above the burner. The rod has two 8 mm (5/16 inch) tips with markings at distances of 19 mm (3/4 inch) and 38 mm (1 1/2 inches) above the top of the burner. Use this gauge when adjusting the burner flame height in accordance with the applicable test method.

4. Burner operation, use side burner during test: Hang the empty specimen holder on the support rod of the VFC chamber and clamp the rear edge of the holder on the holder guide extending from the rear wall of the chamber. Place the burner tube directly under the center of the specimen and adjust the position of the retaining ring on the burner (outside the combustion chamber). Slide the burner out (to the right) and ignite. Adjust the burner flame height according to the flame height gauge on the outer wall of the combustion chamber according to the test method. Remove the empty specimen holder and hang the loaded specimen holder in the cavity as described above. Close the cabin door and conduct the test in accordance with the applicable test method

1. Set the control mode switch to the automatic position.

2. Prepare your test specimen and mount it in the appropriate holder inside the instrument's test chamber.

3. If possible, place the burner below the sample according to your test method.

4. On the AGC, open the main gas shutoff valve by lifting the toggle lever up until it points away from the panel. NOTE: Opening this valve allows gas to enter the pilot burner, which must be lit immediately.

5. Ignite the pilot burner.

6. Close the instrument room door.

7. Press the Timer Reset button below the Elapsed Time display on the AGC. If the display is counting, press the Timer Start button to turn it off. Press the Timer Reset button to return the display to zero.

8. To start the test, simultaneously press the Burner Start button and the Timer Start button on the AGC. (Proper operation will be indicated by illumination of both switches. If neither is illuminated, press the Timer Start switch to extinguish the light and press the Timer Reset button below the Run Time display. Press both Start switches again simultaneously to start the test.

9. When the timer indicates 15 seconds (HMV) or 12 seconds (VFC), the burner will go out. You can stop it as needed by pressing the timer start button and letting the elapsed time display continue to count. You can also stop it with the timer start button, reset it to zero with the timer reset switch, and restart it to time the burn event by pressing the timer start button. Press the timer start button again to stop it.

10. Time the desired events using the run-time display described above or using the handheld event timer provided with the AGC.

11. Additional testing can be performed by repeating steps 6-8 above.

12. When you have finished using the AGC, always close the main gas shutoff valve by pushing the toggle lever to the fully down position (not pointing out of the panel). Cut off the gas supply to your tank or equipment. Electrically shut off the AGC by moving the control mode switch to the center position.
