The world's first metal detector was born in 1960. Entering the industrial age, the first metal detectors were mainly used in the mining industry, and were a powerful helper for checking the purity of minerals and improving efficiency. With the development of society, criminal cases have increased. In 1970, metal detectors were introduced into a new application field - security inspection, which is the prototype of the metal detection door we use today. Its appearance means that human cognition of security has entered a new era.

The emergence of a product has driven the development of an industry, so the security inspection industry, which is both unfamiliar and familiar, has begun to enter the market. Over the past 40 years, metal detectors have undergone several generations of detection technology changes, from the initial signal simulation technology to the continuous wave technology to the digital pulse technology used today. The simple magnetic field cutting principle of metal detectors has been introduced into a variety of scientific and technological achievements. Whether it is sensitivity, resolution, detection accuracy or working performance, there has been a qualitative leap. With the improvement of product quality, the application field has also extended to multiple industries.

In the 1970s, with the rapid development of the aviation industry, hijacking and dangerous incidents gradually attracted attention to aviation and airport security, so metal detectors played an important role in screening prohibited items among many airport equipment. Also in the 1970s, due to the emergence of metal detectors in airport security, large-scale sports events (such as the Olympic Games), exhibitions and important government departments began to use metal detectors as essential security inspection equipment in the security work.

By the 1980s, prison violence cases were on the rise. How to effectively prevent and stop violent cases early became the top priority of prison management. While relying on police officers to strengthen the management of prisoners, metal detectors once again became an essential security equipment for prison management agencies in developed countries such as the United States, Britain, and Belgium, with an average of one metal detector for every 300 prisoners. At the same time, the "treasure hunting fever" that emerged in the West also led to the rapid development of handheld and portable metal detectors.

In the 1990s, the rapidly growing electronic manufacturing industry became the darling of this era. In order to reduce product loss and end the embarrassing situation between employees and companies, large electronic companies gradually adopted metal detection doors and handheld metal detectors as a sharp weapon to manage employee behavior and reduce product loss. Therefore, metal detectors have a new role - product theft prevention.

After the 9.11 incident, anti-terrorism has become an important issue in the international community. The rampant bombings and terrorist activities have made terrorists the target of the security departments of various countries. At this time, the international community's understanding of "security precautions" has also been raised to a new level. Influenced by the 9.11 incident, all walks of life have strengthened the deployment of security work. It is under this influence that the application field of metal detectors has successfully penetrated into other industries.

With the vigorous development of the domestic security industry, the research and development, production and promotion of metal detector products in the field of security inspection have made great progress in recent years. Since 2005, important examinations at all levels of provinces and cities, such as the National Postgraduate Entrance Examination, have used a new instrument for the first time in order to prevent cheating using mobile phones and other tools - metal detectors. This instrument can detect mobile phones, pagers and other items carried by candidates, and candidates must pass the "detection level" before entering the examination room.

At the same time, with the continuous development of the civil security market, detectors have appeared in the fields of transportation, medical treatment, food, security inspection, fire protection, infrastructure construction, etc., and small metal detectors have been given more application directions today. The following is a summary of some of the multiple application development fields of detector products compiled by the author, hoping to bring help to colleagues in the industry.
