Determination of reference point for measuring the size of indexable turning tools

It is suitable for various indexable turning tools that need to calculate and measure the length dimension, tool tip height dimension or tool tip to side base dimension more accurately.

When calculating and measuring the above dimensions of the turning tool, the position of its reference point K should be as specified in Figures 1 to 4.

1. Dimensions L, h1 and f are as specified in Figure 1.

2. The position of the reference point K shall be as specified in Figures 2 to 4 for different main deflection angles kr and feed directions.

1) For external cylindrical or copy turning tools with main deflection angles kr less than or equal to 90°, the position of the reference point K shall be as specified in Figure 2.

2) For facing tools with a main rake angle kr less than or equal to 90°, the position of the reference point K is as shown in Figure 3.

3) For external cylindrical, end face or profiling turning tools with a main rake angle kr greater than 90°, the position of the reference point K is as shown in Figure 4.
