Ambarella helps truck autonomous driving leader Inceptio Technology deliver L3 autonomous driving solutions, covering forward and surround vision perception and AI computing
Inceptio Technology adopts Ambarella edge AI chips in its automotive-grade central computing platform
On June 22, 2022, in Santa Clara, California, USA, Ambarella (hereinafter referred to as "Ambarella", a semiconductor company focusing on AI visual perception chips) and Inceptio Technology (hereinafter referred to as "Inceptio Technology", a technology company focusing on autonomous driving technology and operations) reached a cooperation. Inceptio Technology uses Ambarella AI chips CV2FS and CV2AQ (a total of four CVflow® SoCs) in its automotive-grade central computing platform, and has been pre-installed in mass production . The platform is the core of Inceptio Technology's full-stack self-developed truck autonomous driving system "Xuanyuan". Ambarella's SoC provides high-performance and low-power AI visual perception processing for 7 8-megapixel cameras on this platform, which is used for various safety functions such as ADAS of front-view and surround-view cameras, such as collision avoidance.
Susan Beardslee, principal analyst for supply chain management and logistics at ABI Research, said: "By the end of 2021, there will be more than 223 million commercial vehicles registered worldwide (from light to heavy duty). Inceptio Technology's Ambarella CVflow AI processor is the first to be applied to L3 autonomous heavy trucks jointly developed by Inceptio and its partner OEMs, providing vehicles with leading collision avoidance capabilities that are indispensable for commercial operations. We expect global shipments of SAE L2-L4 autonomous commercial vehicles to exceed 4.2 million by 2030." (Citation 1)
Huang Gang, Executive Vice President of Inceptio Technology, said: "We chose Ambarella's chips for their excellent HD image processing performance, ultra-low power consumption and high-performance AI processing capabilities, as well as the company's strong cooperation and support. Thanks to the efficient operating architecture of the Ambarella CV2 chip, our advanced 3D perception algorithm can run on the Ambarella CV2 chip to maximize performance. Inceptio Technology will work with OEM partners to achieve L3 self-driving heavy-duty truck pre-installed mass production by the end of 2021. We will continue to iterate and update our self-driving technology and products, while continuously expanding the "circle of friends" of cooperative OEMs and a wider range of vehicle platform applications. We are very happy to work with Ambarella and look forward to exploring new areas of development together in the near future."
"We are honored to work with Inceptio on L3 autonomous heavy trucks and help the Xuanyuan autonomous driving system achieve more than two million kilometers of operation," said Wang Fengmin, President and CEO of Ambarella. "Our CVflow edge AI chip provides Inceptio with high-performance AI processing to support advanced computer vision and neural network algorithms, industry-leading image signal processing for the best clarity in a variety of challenging lighting conditions, and the industry's best energy efficiency to meet Inceptio's power consumption requirements."
The Ambarella CV2FS, which has obtained ASIL-C chip functional safety certification, is deployed to perform safety applications such as collision avoidance, while meeting systems with high functional safety requirements. In addition, the Ambarella CV2AQ chip, which has passed AEC-Q100 (Grade2) certification, can also be used to perform image segmentation and object detection, including traffic sign and lane detection.
Availability
Ambarella's edge AI chips CV2FS and CV2AQ , as well as smart heavy-duty trucks equipped with the Inceptio "Xuanyuan" system, have begun to be delivered to customers.
