Mouser Now Stocking AMD / Xilinx Alveo MA35D Media Accelerator

July 11, 2024 – Mouser Electronics, Inc., an authorized global semiconductor and electronic component distributor focused on introducing new products, is now shipping the Alveo™ MA35D media accelerator from AMD / Xilinx. The Alveo MA35D media accelerator is an ASIC-based AI video processing PCIe card for high-density, ultra-low latency streaming in areas such as video collaboration, social live events, telemedicine, cloud gaming, auctions, and online learning applications.
The AMD / Xilinx Alveo MA35D media accelerator features an application-specific integrated circuit-based video processing unit designed for high-density, ultra-low latency streaming. Each device (two per card) not only features four discrete encoder engines to support multiple standards simultaneously, but also gives streaming providers the flexibility to scale to new and legacy endpoints. The card features two 5nm ASIC-based video processing units (VPUs) that support the AV1 compression standard. By performing all video processing functions on the VPU, data movement between the CPU and the accelerator is minimized, thereby reducing overall latency and maximizing channel density, reaching up to 32 channels of 1080p60, 8 channels of 4Kp60, or 4 channels of 8Kp30 per card. The platform also provides ultra-low latency support for mainstream H.264 and H.265 codecs, and is equipped with a next-generation AV1 transcoder engine that can provide up to 52% bit rate reduction5 compared to similar software, saving bandwidth.
The Alveo MA35D accelerator also integrates an AI processor and a dedicated video quality engine to evaluate content frame by frame and dynamically adjust encoder settings to improve perceived visual quality while minimizing bitrate. Optimization techniques include region of interest (ROI) encoding for text and facial resolution, artifact detection for correcting high motion and complex scenes, and content-aware encoding for predictive insights for bitrate optimization.
