Sequans Licenses CEVA's 5G Modem IP for Broadband IoT Platforms
CEVA's PentaG UE Solution Powers Sequans' Upcoming 5G Platform
CEVA, the leading global licensor of wireless connectivity and smart sensing technologies, announced that Sequans, a leading supplier of 5G/4G chips and modules for the Internet of Things, has licensed PentaG 5G New Radio (NR) IP to power its upcoming 5G platform. Sequans will use PentaG IP to ensure that its 5G platform meets the IoT industry's requirements for extreme performance, low latency and tight power budgets.
"5G technology transforms and expands the use of cellular connectivity for applications such as Fixed Wireless Access, AR/VR/XR, smart manufacturing, telemedicine and more," said Bertrand Debray, EVP and GM of Broadband IoT at Sequans. "CEVA's PentaG modem IP provides a powerful DSP and a comprehensive set of hardware and software technologies to shorten the design cycle of our upcoming 5G platforms and ensure the industry-leading performance and efficiency our customers demand."
Michael Boukaya, COO at CEVA, said: "We have a unique approach in DSP and 5G New Radio modem IP to address the many new applications brought about by 5G NR to simplify SoC design for both existing cellular technology companies and new entrants. Sequans is at the forefront of LTE and 5G modem development and has a successful track record of chipset and module products for the IoT. We are pleased to collaborate with the company to provide PentaG 5G modem IP for its next generation chips and modules, and to work towards the common goal of advancing the 5G broadband IoT industry."
The highly configurable and modular PentaG™ architecture includes specialized scalar and vector DSP processors, coprocessors, AI processors, accelerators, software and other basic IP building blocks. PentaG™ supports the full range of 5G eMBB use cases, including independent (SA) and non-independent (NSA), millimeter wave (mmWave) and sub-6 GHz applications. It also supports LTE-A Pro (Gigabit LTE) and traditional LTE and 3G technologies. The platform supports amazing bit rates of over 10Gbps and provides a scalable architecture to support all advanced wireless technologies such as Massive-MIMO, beamforming and complex link adaptation schemes. PentaG™ provides the best trade-off between hardware and software to meet the stringent power and area requirements of 5G eMBB use cases, while maintaining full flexibility to ensure future-oriented applications.
