A new Xiaomi smart speaker patent appeared on the website of the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA), which shows that the smart speaker adopts a cylindrical design and looks very similar to Apple's HomePod.
The patent shows that the upper surface of the Xiaomi smart speaker has a rounded disc-shaped surface, which may provide two functions: one is a micro OLED display panel that displays connection status, volume, media playback, and other such information. The second is to provide a touch-enabled surface that can provide touch-based or gesture-based controls such as volume, playback, media selection, etc. However, the above functions may only provide one of them.
The Xiaomi smart speaker in the patent also seems to have a 3.5mm headphone jack, which is not a very common thing for smart speaker buyers. Since entering the smartphone business, Xiaomi has established a rapidly growing smart home ecosystem, and this smart speaker will allegedly fit perfectly into that ecosystem.
