Hexagon recently announced that it has signed an agreement to acquire Volume Graphics, a market leader in the industrial CT software industry. The addition of Volume Graphics will further expand Hexagon's solution portfolio in the field of smart manufacturing.
Volume Graphics was founded in 1997 in Heidelberg, Germany. It has more than 20 years of experience in non-destructive testing and test software development. Currently, a large number of customers in the automotive, aerospace, and electronics industries around the world are using its software to ensure product quality. Volume Graphics has subsidiaries in Japan, Singapore, China, and the United States, and provides software services to customers in more than 50 countries. Its sales in 2018 reached 25 million euros.
Through Volume Graphics high-end analysis and visualization CT (computed tomography) software, manufacturers can obtain the three-dimensional features of the inside and outside of the scanned object. Compared with traditional detection methods, through CT, manufacturers can "see" the complex structure inside the parts. Without destroying the parts, complete data on the corresponding features of hidden areas and traditionally difficult-to-reach internal areas can be obtained to measure and detect dimensional deviations and defects.
“Volume Graphics provides a valuable toolset to generate computed tomography data for applications ranging from defect detection to failure analysis and reverse engineering,” said Ola Rollén, President and CEO of Hexagon. “We look forward to integrating our capabilities so that customers can ensure the highest quality throughout product development and production. In addition, as additive manufacturing is increasingly used in a variety of industries, industrial CT scanning is quickly becoming an important source of data for manufacturers. The addition of CT software directly enhances our capabilities in this rapidly growing area.”
