Wi-Fi®, Bluetooth® and Bluetooth Smart connectivity solutions remove barriers to entry for IoT application development.
CSR has announced details of several upcoming connectivity solutions for the new ARM® mbed™ Operating System (OS) that will make it easier and faster for developers to create complete Internet of Things (IoT) solutions.
CSR will provide two mbed expansion boards for IoT community developers, one of which integrates Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity solutions based on CSR6030™ and CSR8311™, and the other provides Bluetooth Smart connectivity based on CSR1010™, which will be generally available in early 2015. Designed to work seamlessly with the ARM mbed operating system, which was launched in October 2014, the two expansion boards provide the basic connectivity required for all IoT devices. With these two ideal and easy-to-deploy connectivity solutions, developers can further optimize the technology to achieve the best performance for all devices.
Anthony Murray, senior vice president of business unit at CSR, said: "The integration of mbed OS with the ARM processing engine and CSR connectivity solutions can significantly reduce the pressure on developers to bring connected products to market cost-effectively, which is critical in the fast-changing and competitive consumer IoT market."
“The stackable platform enables functional modules to be easily reused on a variety of hardware, which will help mbed OS expand ARM’s support for the development community and further bring IoT devices to market.”
Krisztian Flautner, general manager of the IoT business unit at ARM, said: “To enable IoT applications to scale, we need to provide developers with a broad range of interoperable hardware and software solutions that can help them seamlessly move from proof of concept to prototyping and production. CSR is a key partner in helping ARM implement the mbed IoT device platform by providing connectivity and positioning solutions that accelerate the development process. CSR component solutions will greatly facilitate the development of IoT applications for the 70,000 mbed ecosystem developers and achieve commercial scale production.”
CSR joined the ARM mbed project as a component partner in February 2014, and is committed to providing developers with comprehensive development tools to help them bring their products to market. In order to add positioning and connectivity features, CSR will also provide mbed developers with a GPS development board based on the mature SiRFStarV platform. Users can purchase the positioning development board, including source code and reference design resources, through CSR distributors before the end of the year.
