Spring Festival Gala achieves 5G network transmission of 4K ultra-high-definition content

After 36 years of CCTV Spring Festival Gala, this year's Shenzhen venue will historically realize 5G network transmission of 4K ultra-high-definition content. This is another important breakthrough after the construction of my country's first national 5G new media platform.

On January 13, China Media Group, together with China Mobile and Huawei, successfully conducted a 5G network 4K TV transmission test in Shenzhen, Guangdong. Through China Mobile's 5G test network, the 4K ultra-high-definition signal of the CCTV Spring Festival Gala Shenzhen venue was successfully transmitted back to the Beijing computer room of China Media Group. At the same time, the 4K ultra-high-definition Beijing landscape signal of the CCTV was transmitted to the 4K ultra-high-definition OB van of the CCTV located in the Shenzhen venue to display the real-time signal, thus making technical verification and preparation for the application of 5G technology in the 2019 Spring Festival Gala.

The Shenzhen venue of the Spring Festival Gala uses Huawei's end-to-end 5G equipment, including 64T64R base station equipment AAU, 5G core network, and 5G commercial terminals (CPE). After field testing, the 5G network can stably provide 80Mbps wireless upload capacity for live broadcast equipment, fully meeting the requirements of the Spring Festival Gala's ultra-high-definition video live broadcast.

Powering the world's first 5G remote surgery

Huawei, in collaboration with China Unicom Fujian Branch, Fujian Medical University Mengchao Hepatobiliary Hospital, and Suzhou Condo Robotics Co., Ltd., conducted the world's first 5G remote surgical animal experiment at China Unicom Southeast Research Institute in Fujian.

The operation was performed remotely using 5G technology to transmit operation signals in real time, and a liver lobectomy was performed on the experimental animals at Mengchao Hepatobiliary Hospital 50 kilometers away. The entire operation took about 60 minutes, with very low operation delay. The surgical wound was neat, without a trace of blood, and the vital signs of the experimental animals were stable after the operation.

The biggest problem with remote surgery is the real-time interconnection of signals. This operation achieved this goal by taking advantage of the large bandwidth, low latency, and large connection of Huawei's 5G network technology. The control links and two-way video links at both ends of the remotely controlled surgical robot are all carried on the 5G network. "The control experience and high-definition video based on the 5G network have reached the same experience as the dedicated fiber line."

As 5G medical network applications continue to mature, remote care, remote diagnosis, and remote surgery will gradually be used, effectively improving the quality of life of the sick.

Launched the industry's highest performance Kunpeng processor and server

On January 7, 2019, Huawei announced the launch of the industry's highest-performance ARM-based processor, Kunpeng 920, as well as TaiShan servers and Huawei Cloud services based on Kunpeng 920. It will also work with industry partners to promote the development of ARM industry, create an open, cooperative, and win-win ecological environment, and push computing performance to new heights.

Xu Wenwei, Huawei's director and president of strategic marketing, said: "Huawei continues to innovate in the computing field around customer value; we foresee that with the advent of the intelligent society, this field will continue to grow in the future. The current diversity of business and data has brought about the demand for heterogeneous computing. Huawei and Intel have achieved good results in cooperation for a long time and made positive contributions to the development of the ICT industry. Huawei and Intel will maintain long-term strategic cooperation and continue to innovate. At the same time, the ARM industry has ushered in new development opportunities. Huawei's release of Kunpeng 920 and TaiShan servers are mainly used in scenarios such as big data, distributed storage, and ARM native applications. We will work with global partners to uphold openness, cooperation, and win-win results, promote the development of the ARM ecosystem, expand the computing field, and embrace the era of diverse computing!"

Released the industry's first data center switch for the AI era

On January 9, 2019, at the "New Network Engine AI Wins the Future" Huawei Network Spring New Product Launch Conference, Huawei released the industry's first data center switch for the AI era, CloudEngine 16800, which defines the three major features of data center switches in the AI era: embedded AI chips, single-slot 48 x 400GE, and the ability to evolve to autonomous driving networks. It innovatively introduces AI technology to help customers accelerate their intelligent transformation.

Blade base station won the first prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award

Huawei Blade Site

Recently, the 2018 National Science and Technology Progress Award was announced in Beijing. Huawei's "Development and Large-Scale Application of Next-Generation Blade Site Solutions" project won the first prize of the 2018 National Science and Technology Progress Award.

Huawei's blade base station solution adopts a unified modular design to realize the blade-type elements of the base station, such as RF, baseband, power supply, battery, microwave, and transmission. Different modules can be quickly assembled and seamlessly assembled in any combination, and can be flexibly installed on poles, towers, walls, or roofs. The "0" site does not require a machine room cabinet, making the installation of the base station as simple and convenient as assembling Lego blocks.

Blade base stations support multiple standards such as 2G/3G/4G at the same time. Under the multi-frequency and multi-mode network development strategy, they can efficiently utilize valuable site resources, greatly reduce the difficulty of site acquisition and reduce site rent, and help operators cope with the rapidly growing capacity demand of mobile networks. At the same time, blade base stations use natural heat dissipation to meet the outdoor high temperature environment of 55℃, IP65 protection level, and do not require machine room cabinets and air conditioners. Its high energy efficiency and environmentally friendly characteristics help operators build green mobile networks.

Since its launch in 2012, more than 15 million blade base stations have been shipped worldwide and successfully deployed in 310 operator networks in more than 170 countries. Global customers highly appreciate Huawei's innovative blade base station solution, which not only breaks the traditional site construction model of large cabinet sites and complex operation and maintenance, but also effectively improves site deployment efficiency, especially in densely populated urban areas and high-speed rail scenarios, solving site space constraints, achieving rapid deployment, and reducing rental costs. It also provides the simplest site solution for rural wide coverage scenarios.
