According to disclosures, Dhirendra Prasad has worked at Apple for ten years , most of which time as a buyer in the global services supply chain department , mainly purchasing components and parts from Apple suppliers.

He admitted to " taking kickbacks, inflating invoices, stealing devices , and causing Apple to pay for items and services it never received" between 2011 and 2018 , ultimately causing Apple to lose more than $17 million.

In a company like Apple, where confidentiality and regulatory measures are strict, it is amazing that this buyer was able to commit crimes for eight years and with huge amounts of money without being discovered! Let's take a look at how he did it.

Regarding the method of secretly selling parts, Prasad said that as early as 2013, he shipped some motherboards in Apple's inventory to a company called CTrends, which was run by co-conspirator Baker and provided supply chain services to Apple .

Baker removes components and parts from the motherboard , and Prasad places "custom" purchase orders for the components . After Baker swaggers these components back to the Apple warehouse, CTrends will issue an invoice , and Prasad will complete the final step of arranging payment.

Another, simpler way was for Prasad to arrange for the components to be shipped from Apple's inventory at a Nevada warehouse to another associate, Hansen's company, who would then remove the devices from their packaging, put them in new packaging and send them back to Apple. 's warehouse. Then there is the same invoicing and collection as mentioned above. The "taken advantage of" Apple once again bought its own devices.

Finally, these procurement thieves made Apple pay twice for their expensive components and motherboards , and the inventory went back to Apple's warehouse after a round trip. Although it is unclear how the two circumvented the complicated outbound, inbound and supplier certification processes, they finally made a fortune .

In addition to defrauding Apple, Prasad also admitted engaging in tax fraud to obtain tax deductions. The U.S. Attorney's Office said the scams cost the IRS more than $1.8 million.

Prasad pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit mail fraud and wire fraud, which carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison . In addition, he agreed to forfeit approximately $5 million worth of assets , including real estate, that he acquired as a result of his illegal profits . Source: Chip Master
