Here it comes! Hongmeng mobile phone system officially debuts
At yesterday's press conference, Huawei officially released the Hongmeng mobile phone operating system, officially named HarmonyOS 2. Huawei is going to develop its own OS system, independent of Android and iOS systems. Only one system is needed to connect, which can cover all large and small smart terminal devices with memory ranging from as small as 128K to as large as 4GB or more.
Many articles have introduced the important role and significance of the Hongmeng system. What many people don’t understand is why Huawei wants to develop Hongmeng. In fact, its birth was not due to the two-year sanctions by the United States. Huawei decided to develop its own system as early as 9 years ago.
Previously, Huawei's Xinsheng Community released the "Minutes of the Symposium between Mr. Ren and the 2012 Laboratory", which talked about the past of the Hongmeng system.
In July 2012, Ren Zhengfei met with laboratory cadres and experts. At the symposium, Li Jinxi, then director of Huawei's terminal OS development department, asked Ren Zhengfei about his expectations and requirements for terminal operating systems.
Ren Zhengfei said that Huawei's development of terminal operating systems is based on strategic considerations, and the same principle applies to high-end chips. When the supply is cut off, the backup system must be able to be used.
It was also in 2012 that Dr. Wang Chenglu, a key figure in the birth of Harmony OS, was transferred to the position of President of the Central Software Department of the 2012 Laboratory and initiated the research on Harmony OS.
In May 2016, the Harmony OS operating system was officially launched. In 2017, the 1.0 version of the Hongmeng operating system was completed. Wang Chenglu also shared the topic of "developing a distributed IoT operating system that collaborates between multiple devices" with Yu Chengdong and other colleagues in the consumer terminal business, and demonstrated the results of the 1.0 version of the operating system developed at that time.
Regarding the Hongmeng system, Yu Chengdong affirmed the technical direction, but expressed doubts about the difficulty of operation and feasibility.
The next key point appeared - in early 2018, Dr. Wang Chenglu introduced the idea of developing an operating system to Ren Zhengfei, who affirmed it. The Hongmeng system was no longer a technical project within the software, but became a formal project of the consumer business department.
The rest of the story is for everyone to see. At the HDC Developer Conference in August 2019, Huawei officially announced the HarmonyOS. In the past two years, the development of the HarmonyOS has been accelerated, and it has gradually become the core of Huawei's business.
Hongmeng development history:
HarmonyOS 1.0 was launched in 2019, and HarmonyOS 2.0 was launched in September 2020. It will fully enable the full-scenario ecosystem and have five major capabilities: cross-device, service flow, ultra-fast direct access, visual and expressive, and privacy and security.
After the release of Hongmeng 2.0, the Beta version will be immediately released to application developers, and will be released to large screens, watches, and car machines on September 10, and to mobile phones in December 2020.
In addition to mobile phones, tablets, watches, car computers and other platforms, the Hongmeng 2.0 system will also be open source. From September 10, Hongmeng OS will be open source for large-screen, watch, car computer and other 128KB-128MB terminal devices. In April 2021, it will be open source for terminal devices with 128MB-4GB memory, and after October 2021, it will be open source for all devices with more than 4GB.
2019:
On August 9, 2019, Huawei held the Huawei Developer Conference in Dongguan and officially released the operating system Hongmeng OS.
2020:
On September 10, Huawei's Hongmeng system was upgraded to HarmonyOS 2.0 version.
On December 16, the Beta test version of Hongmeng OS2.0 for mobile phones was released.
