[New Product Recommendation] | Rohde & Schwarz launches the new R&S NPA series of compact power analyzers to meet all power measurement requirements
The new power analyzer series from Rohde & Schwarz (hereinafter referred to as "R&S") has three models that meet all requirements for measuring voltage, current, power and total harmonic distortion of DC and AC sources. The R&S NPA101 power meter provides all basic measurement functions, the R&S NPA501 power analyzer adds enhanced measurement functions and graphical analysis functions, and the R&S NPA701 compliance tester includes power consumption evaluation functions in accordance with IEC62301 and EN50564 standards, as well as in compliance with EN61000-3 -2 Standard EMC harmonic emission test function.
Key Message
The electrical characteristics of a device or module are fundamental properties that are measured throughout the electronics industry, starting from research and development, through conformance certification testing, production and service. All models of the new R&S NPA power analyzer series meet the requirements of all these stages, with power measurement ranges from 50µW to 12kW, voltages from 1mV to 600V, and currents from 1mA to 20A. All three models feature a high sampling rate of 500ksample/s, allowing detection of even the shortest transient ripples in the output. A 16-bit resolution A/D converter ensures current and voltage readings with an accuracy of ±0.05%.
The new R&S NPA power analyzer range now comes in three models
The three instruments of the R&S NPA series contain 23 basic measurements, including power, current, voltage, harmonic distortion and energy. Users can select up to 10 measurement values from a total of 37 measurements to be displayed on the screen at the same time, with a refresh rate of 100 milliseconds. Screen content can be output graphically to the USB port, and all measured values can be recorded via the logging function. The 5V measurement range provides best-in-class resolution for power and energy measurements. Selectable Crest factor values of 1 , 3 or 6 provide best-in-class flexibility for capturing all peaks and maximizing dynamic range.
All instruments in this series are equipped with LAN and USB interfaces for remote control . The R&S NPA501-G and R&S NPA701-G models also feature a GPIB interface. A full set of SCPI commands and LabVIEW , LabWindows/CVI and IVI.net drivers make it easy to integrate instruments into your system. Users benefit from a compact form factor and footprint that allows two instruments to be mounted side by side in a 19- inch rack when the system is in use .
In addition, all R&S NPA501 and R&S NPA701 models have maximum and minimum peak values for voltage, current and power. With the PASS/FAIL function, users can define up to six sets of maximum and minimum values to easily check whether the output of the device under test is within limits. Both instruments also feature a graphical display mode. In the time domain, users can view power-up surge characteristics, voltage and current waveforms simultaneously, or select parameters over a longer period of time. In the frequency domain, users can view waveforms up to the 50th harmonic, logarithmically or in tabular format if necessary.
The high-end model of the series, the R&S NPA701 compliance tester, also provides step-by-step procedures for compliance with IEC62301 and EN50564 (power consumption in low-power mode) and EN61000-3-2 (electromagnetic compatibility harmonic emissions) standards. Users unfamiliar with official standards procedures can conduct compliance testing with confidence and be assured that the test results are valid. The R&S NPA701 is the only power analyzer of its kind that does not require a separate PC to perform compliance testing.
The R&S NPA power analyzer series replaces the R&S HMC8015 power analyzer and can be directly replaced or used together as required. These instruments are part of the R&S Essentials product portfolio and are available from R&S and selected distribution channel partners.
