[MWC2024] | Rohde & Schwarz launches the industry’s most compact 3GPP 5G conformance test system
Rohde & Schwarz (hereinafter referred to as "R&S") launches two test systems for 5G RF and RRM conformance testing. The R&S TS8980S-4A is a cost-effective all-in-one solution tailored for 3GPP in-band test cases, while the R&S TS8980FTA-3A is an all-in-one solution covering all in-band and out-of-band test cases. There is currently no other solution on the market that offers the same functionality in such a compact package.
Key Message
The R&S TS8980 is the official 5G conformance test platform approved by the Global Certification Forum (GCF) and PTCRB . Chipset, modem and terminal equipment manufacturers, as well as test houses, can use the test system to perform RF (TP298) and RRM (TP296) testing in compliance with 3GPP specifications . The platform also meets the testing requirements of network operators and regulators.
R&S has developed two new test systems for its successful R&S TS8980 series: the R&S TS8980S-4A and the R&S TS8980FTA-3A. These solutions address market requirements for streamlined hardware and smaller footprints.

The R&S TS8980S-4A all-in-one solution is a fully automated conformance test system that can perform verification conformance test cases up to 8 GHz and four carrier aggregation . It is a cost-effective solution based on the enhanced R&S CMX500 all-in-one 5G signaling tester (OBT) . Supports 3GPP RX/TX in-band conformance test cases, demodulation performance test cases and Radio Resource Management (RRM) test cases. Customers can also upgrade the R&S CMX500 to the R&S TS8980S-4A . This solution is particularly attractive to 5G equipment manufacturers who want to validate in-band testing at an early stage and outsource out-of-band testing to test houses. The test system is based on the R&S Contest software platform and features an intuitive graphical user interface , advanced tools for fast commissioning and a sophisticated report manager for big data analytics and cloud services.

The all-in-one solution R&S TS8980FTA-3A is the most compact conformance test solution currently on the market. It supports a full range of in-band and out-of-band test cases and the entire device qualification process for RF and RRM, covering 5G NR use cases defined by 3GPP and operator acceptance specifications. These functions would normally require a dual cabinet solution, but now R&S has successfully reduced the footprint of this test system to a single cabinet test system, allowing it to be installed in labs with limited floor space.
