R&S' new ultra-wideband test solution can be used for FiRa Consortium PHY conformance verification
Rohde & Schwarz (hereinafter referred to as "R&S") has launched a new ultra-wideband (UWB) physical layer test solution based on the R&S CMP200 wireless tester. The new physical layer conformance test tool (PCTT) is used to support the UWB physical layer conformance test specified by the FiRa Association.
As a well-known supplier of wireless device test solutions and a member of the FiRa TM Alliance, Rohde & Schwarz recently announced that it will provide FiRa-approved ultra-wideband (UWB) physical layer consistency test tools (PCTT) to support the further opening and standardization of the UWB ecosystem. With its expertise and experience in wireless technology verification and certification, Rohde & Schwarz can support the UWB physical layer interoperability verification specified by FiRa and provide test tools for it.
Because UWB has unique features for secure and fine ranging, UWB-enabled devices can accurately and securely measure the distance and direction of connected devices. These features make UWB a technology that can support use cases such as indoor navigation, social distance calculation, hands-free access, asset tracking, ticket verification, mobile payment, and click-to-trigger applications. The FiRa certification program is designed to support the interoperability of UWB devices at different application layers, including physical layer conformance testing performed by FiRa authorized test laboratories (ATL). These laboratories use FiRa-verified test tools, such as test solutions provided by R&S.
Clint Chaplin:
Secretary of the FiRa Alliance Board of Directors and Co-Chair of the Compliance and Certification Working Group
"Providing a seamless customer experience and device interoperability is critical for widespread adoption of UWB. Certification is one of the cornerstones to support interoperability. We are pleased to have the Rohde & Schwarz PHY conformance test tools available at FiRa."
As a core supplier of wireless device testing, R&S has developed UWB test solutions in cooperation with industry partners and organizations such as the FiRa Alliance. These test solutions can be applied to R&D, certification, chipset characteristics and production. The ultra-wideband test function of the R&S CMP200 wireless comprehensive tester is controlled by a new ultra-wideband physical layer test suite, which enables flexible pre-certification testing. It also provides a FiRa-certified PCTT option.
Christoph Pointner:
Senior Vice President, Mobile Radio Test, Rohde & Schwarz
We are pleased to support the FiRa Consortium in building a strong certification framework for the open UWB ecosystem by providing reliable physical layer test tools. We look forward to continued collaboration with FiRa Consortium members to cover upcoming UWB use cases and strengthen the certification framework.”
