AMD continues to set the industry standard with its EPYC™ Embedded processors, delivering exceptional performance, efficiency, connectivity and innovation for networking , storage and industrial applications . Today, we are extending that leadership with the 4th Gen AMD EPYC Embedded 8004 Series processors.

Designed for compute-intensive embedded systems, the AMD EPYC Embedded 8004 series processors deliver exceptional performance for high-demand workloads while maximizing energy efficiency for space- and power-constrained applications in a compact form factor. It also integrates a full suite of embedded features to further enhance system performance and reliability. Built to excel in the most demanding embedded environments, the AMD EPYC Embedded 8004 series is ideal for network systems, routers, security appliances, enterprise and cloud warm/cold storage, and industrial edge applications, ensuring seamless handling of dynamic workloads.

01

✦Breakthrough performance and energy efficiency

AMD EPYC Embedded 8004 Series Processors Leveraging the power of AMD’s “Zen 4c” cores, the EPYC Embedded 8004 processors deliver new levels of core density and performance per watt. The first processor series in the AMD embedded portfolio to integrate these cores, the EPYC Embedded 8004 processors set a new bar for platform efficiency and innovation. This advancement enables hardware providers to design differentiated, energy-efficient platforms that deliver up to 30% better performance per watt than the previous generation (“Zen 3”) 1 .

This series of processors offers 1P configurations ranging from 12 to 64 cores (24 to 128 threads), supports up to 1.152TB DDR5 memory capacity (2 DIMMs per channel, DIMM size is 96GB), and thermal design power (TDP) ranging from 70W to 225W, designed to meet diverse application needs.

02

✦Rich I/O and functions in a compact space

The AMD EPYC Embedded 8004 series processors are designed to handle data-intensive workloads with ease, thanks to their high-speed I/O connectivity (96 lanes of PCIe ® Gen 5) and expanded memory bandwidth (6 channels of DDR5-4800). These features enable system designers to easily connect SSDs, network cards, and more components to create flexible and scalable system configurations.

They are available in a compact SP6 socket form factor that is 19% smaller than the AMD EPYC Embedded 9004 series processors 2 , taking up less space while conserving energy. These devices are backed by a seven-year lifecycle support, helping system designers maintain the life of their platform.

03

Enhanced embedded functionality

AMD EPYC Embedded 8004 series processors excel in data transfer capabilities, system reliability, and data retention. Key integrated features include:

Direct Memory Access (4th Gen AMD EPYC DMA) : Designed to improve system efficiency and performance by offloading data transfers from the CPU, allowing the cores to focus on critical application tasks.

Non-Transparent Bridge (NTB): Enables data exchange between two CPUs in an active-active configuration via PCI Express (PCIe ® ), thereby enhancing system reliability and ensuring continued operation in the event of a failure.

DRAM Flush to NVMe: Flushes critical data from DRAM to non-volatile memory during a power outage, helping ensure critical data is preserved.

Dual SPI support: Supports the use of two SPI ROMs, one for the BIOS image and the other for the secure bootloader, providing additional security.

Device Identity Attestation: Helps prevent unauthorized CPU upgrades by allowing cryptographic authentication of the processor.

Yocto Framework Support: Enables customers to create lightweight, optimized Linux operating systems for embedded systems.

AMD EPYC Embedded 8004 series processors are ideal for markets that seek powerful performance while also requiring energy efficiency, thermal flexibility, and platform density. Optimized for networking, storage, and industrial edge systems that handle demanding workloads in harsh environments, AMD EPYC Embedded 8004 series processors deliver breakthrough performance-per-watt advantages and advanced features that customers need.

1. Performance-per-watt results stated are based on testing conducted by AMD in August 2024 using SPECrate ® 2017 Integer Throughput and SPECrate ® 2017 Floating Point Throughput benchmarks to measure the performance-per-watt of an AMD 4th Gen EPYC Embedded 8534P processor (64C/128T/200W TDP), Dual Rank DDR5 4800MT/s memory, 16x64GB, Ubuntu 22.043 OS, configured on an AMD reference platform, compared to a 3rd Gen EPYC Embedded 7713P processor (64C/128T/225W TDP), Dual Rank 3200MT/s memory, 16x32GB, Ubuntu 20.04 OS, configured on an AMD reference platform. For both test systems: BIOS settings ACPI SRAT, L3 Cache, Domains set to Enabled, Memory Interleaving and DRAM Scrub Time set to Disabled. Results will vary based on system configuration, settings, usage and other factors. SPECrate ® 2017 is a registered trademark of SPEC (EMB-211).

2. SP5 package size is 72 mm x 75.4 mm, SP6 package size is 58.5 mm x 75.4 mm.
