Exquisite and compact second part | ERU33 series compact high current choke further expands high current inductor
TDK has further expanded its EPCOS ERU33 series of high-current inductors with a new core material, the ERU33M component for even higher current applications. The new component uses a new alloy powder core material that has a softer saturation characteristic than previous core materials, meeting the increasing power density and current requirements in automotive and industrial applications.

① Higher saturation current: The ERU33M series is designed to handle saturation currents from 55 A to 120 A at +100°C, ensuring reliable performance under high load conditions.
② Low DC resistance: With resistance as low as 0.46 mΩ, these chokes minimize energy losses and optimize the efficiency of the power system.
③Compact design: With a size of only 33 x 33 mm and a height of 11 mm or 15.3 mm, the ERU33M series can provide high-power solutions without compromising space. Therefore, the ERU33M series is very suitable for applications with size constraints.
④ Efficient heat dissipation: By thermally connecting the flat coil to the electrically insulating powder alloy core, these chokes can be mounted on a heat sink, significantly improving thermal management and increasing long-term reliability.

There are three new models available for this expansion. They are shielded and suitable for through-hole (THT) mounting. The design saturation current at +100°C is 55A to 120A, covering the inductance range of 1.4 µH to 7.2 µH, and the DC resistance is as low as 0.46 mΩ to 1.2 mΩ. It uses flat wire winding and is very compact, only 33 x 33 mm, with a device height of 11 mm or 15.3 mm. By strengthening the close contact between the flat coil and the alloy powder core with isolation coating, the design can be used with the client's heat sink to achieve efficient heat dissipation of the component. In addition to standard models, the new components can also be customized to provide other inductance values according to customer requirements.
The new inductors are RoHS-compliant and AEC-Q200-qualified and have an operating temperature range of -40°C to +150°C. In the automotive sector, typical applications include buck-boost chokes for DC-DC converters (e.g. differential mode chokes for 48V on-board power supplies or on-board charger input filters), as well as medium and high current battery chargers and inverters. In industrial electronics, they can be used as energy storage and output chokes in high current power supplies, solar inverters for photovoltaic systems, and point-of-load (PoL) converters.
To help users understand the performance of the new components, TDK provides the ERU33M choke (B82579X0033) sample kit, which contains all three models, with four samples of each model.
