Meet your needs for ambient light, proximity sensing and UV light monitoring functions at the same time!
Silicon Labs ' Si1153 and Si1133 optical sensor series can sense ultraviolet ( UV ) light index, ambient light ( ALS ), and long-distance proximity ( Proximity ), and are very suitable for designing a variety of optical monitoring applications. Since optical sensors also require an external microcontroller ( MCU ) to read sensor information and provide sufficient performance to run back-end processing algorithms to achieve various optical monitoring functions, Silicon Labs also provides a new optical sensor EXP development board, combined with the EFM8 Busy Bee 3 series MCU entry development kit, to help engineers accelerate the development of terminal equipment that supports ambient light, proximity sensing, and UV light monitoring functions. Proximity Proximity Induction
Silicon Labs optical sensors can drive an internal or external LED and measure the reflected light data. When approaching the sensor, more light is reflected and the amount of data increases. General proximity sensing can achieve a distance of 1 cm to 50 cm without an external lens, while long-distance proximity sensing can achieve a distance of 1 cm to 200 cm through a lens. At the same time, this optical sensor supports outdoor applications in sunny environments.
Ambient light monitoring
The application of ambient light monitoring does not drive the LED and measure the ambient light through an optical sensor, but transmits the optical sensor data to an external MCU and further calculates the LUX value of the ambient light by running the back-end processing algorithm. In the case of a high LUX value, the system can judge that the current ambient light is brighter. When the sensor is covered by an object, the LUX value will decrease.
UV light detection
For UV light detection, the backend processing algorithm is also run through an external MCU to calculate the UV index of the environment. The typical UV index value is 0 (low-risk environment) to 12 (high-risk environment). If you need to improve the detection performance, you must use an external Diffuser.
