At the CES 2023 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas from January 5 to 8, STMicroelectronics and fabless, a fabless company specializing in end-to-end computer vision software and hardware systems including advanced vision processing system-on-chip (SoC) Semiconductor design company eYs3D Microelectronics will showcase the joint development results of both parties in the field of high-quality machine vision, suitable for 3D stereo vision cameras suitable for machine vision and robots. Through live product demonstrations, the companies will demonstrate how stereo vision depth cameras using advanced technology in active encoding infrared can improve vision at medium and long working distances for applications such as biometric identification and autonomous guidance.
Wang Jingrong, Chief of Business and Strategy of Yuli Microelectronics, said : "ST's advanced image sensor uses proprietary process technology, and its pixel size is among the best among similar products, with both high sensitivity and low crosstalk. This cost-effective image sensor allows us to integrate the system The size is very compact while ensuring excellent machine vision performance. The close cooperation with ST enhances our confidence in developing new products that will lead the machine vision market.”
Product demonstrations from both parties at CES highlighted two reference designs, Ref-B6 and Ref-B3 ASV (Active Stereo Vision) visual depth cameras, developed jointly. Both reference designs integrate the eYs3D CV processor and eSP876 3D depth mapping chipset with STMicroelectronics' global shutter image sensor with enhanced near-infrared (NIR) sensitivity. Yuli Microelectronics' embedded chipset enhances object edge detection capabilities, optimizes depth denoising performance, and can output high-definition 3D depth map data with a frame rate of up to 60 fps. STMicroelectronics' image sensors enable cameras to output data streams at various combinations of video/depth resolutions and frame rates, ensuring industry-leading quality in depth sensing and point cloud creation.
In addition, improved lenses, filters and VCSEL active infrared light sources optimize the infrared light path and maximize the camera's ability to resist interference from ambient light noise. A specially developed control algorithm alternates the infrared light source on and off to capture artifact-free grayscale images. Utilizing this advanced hardware design, the Ref-B6 stereo vision camera achieves a 6cm baseline and a depth field of view of 85 degrees (horizontal) x 70 degrees (vertical).
Both Yuli Microelectronics reference designs include SDKs (Software Development Kits) that support Windows®, Linux and Android operating system environments, as well as a variety of different programming languages and packaging APIs.
