Power Integrations' LYTSwitch™-6 series of safety-isolated LED driver ICs has added a high-power density member, the new device uses PI's unique PowiGaN™ technology. In smart lighting and ballast applications, its output power can be up to 110 W with a conversion efficiency of 94%.
High efficiency eliminates the need for heat sinks, reduces the size and weight of the ballast, and reduces the requirements for the air cooling environment around the driver. The new IC still retains the inherent advantages of LYTSwitch-6, such as fast dynamic response, can provide excellent cross-regulation rate for parallel LED strings, and does not require additional secondary voltage regulation circuits, while also supporting flicker-free system operation. These advantages can ensure that dimming applications using pulse width modulation (PWM) interfaces are easier to implement.
