MPLAB® Snap In-Circuit Debugger
Information Sheet
The MPLAB® Snap In-Circuit Debugger (PG164100) is an ultra-low-cost debugging solution for projects that do not require high-voltage programming or advanced debugging features. As a result, this debugger supports many of Microchip's newer MCUs, but not some older products. This debugger provides some basic debugging/programming features for developers who do not need advanced features. It is not intended for production programming.
The MPLAB Snap in-circuit debugger allows quick and easy debugging and programming using the powerful graphical user interface of MPLAB X IDE (Integrated Development Environment) or MPLAB IPE (Integrated Programming Environment). The debugger can be used with Microchip PIC®, dsPIC® Flash, AVR® or DSC devices. In addition, it can also be used with 32-bit microcontrollers such as SAM, CEC and PIC32 devices. MPLAB Snap connects to the computer through a high-speed 2.0 USB interface and to the target board through a Microchip 8-pin single in-line (SIL) debug connector. The SIL connector uses two device I/O pins and the reset line to implement in-circuit debugging and in-circuit serial programming (ICSP™).
MPLAB Snap supports advanced interfaces such as 4-wire JTAG and Serial Wire Debug with streaming data gateways, while being backwards compatible with demo boards, debug headers and target systems using 2-wire JTAG and ICSP. Because the debugger system uses the built-in emulation circuitry of the target device (rather than a special debugger chip), code execution is similar to that of an actual device. The debugger system provides interactive access to all available features for a given device, which can be set and modified through the MPLAB X IDE interface. The MPLAB Snap in-circuit debugger is compatible with Microsoft Windows® 7 or later, Linux® and macOS™ platforms.
