Cypress Releases New WICED Studio 4 One-Stop Turnkey Development Platform to Simplify IoT Design
Cypress Semiconductor Corporation today announced a new version of the WICED® (Wireless Internet of Embedded Devices) Studio 4 IoT development platform that enables wireless connectivity in minutes. The platform provides a one-stop development environment with a simple and easy-to-use programming interface for a variety of wireless technologies, including Cypress's world-leading Wi-Fi®, Bluetooth and combo solutions. The WICED platform supports many of the most popular cloud services today, without requiring developers to install related service connection protocols, thereby reducing development time and costs. Developers can access the WICED Studio 4 platform, ecosystem and community at http://www.cypress.com/wicedcommunity .
“Many IoT applications are embracing combo solutions with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and other connectivity protocols, and every IoT developer wants an easy migration path for connectivity upgrades,” said Mike Hogan, vice president of Cypress’s Internet of Things Business Unit. “Our new WICED Studio 4 development platform provides a multi-protocol design tool that simplifies the design process and helps our customers get innovative connected products to market faster.”
The Cypress WICED Studio 4 development platform provides the world's most integrated and interoperable wireless software development kit (SDK). The toolkit includes the most popular and rigorously tested Wi-Fi and Bluetooth protocol stacks on the market; it also provides an easy-to-use application programming interface, so developers do not need to learn complex wireless technologies. The toolkit is in line with the development trend of dual-mode connectivity in the Internet of Things, supporting Cypress's CYW43438 Wi-Fi and Bluetooth combination solution and its low-power CYW20719 Bluetooth and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) combination solution (which has been sampled by major customers). The SDK also includes an installation package for multiple wireless technologies, and its Eclipse integrated development environment (IDE) can run on multiple operating systems such as Windows, MacOS and Linux.
The WICED Studio 4 SDK's powerful library integrates with popular cloud services such as Amazon Web Services, IBM Bluemix, Alibaba Cloud (Alibaba Cloud International Edition) and Microsoft Azure, as well as private cloud partner services, so cloud connectivity can be achieved in minutes. The toolkit supports the Apple HomeKit home automation platform for Apple licensees and will soon add support for China's major social media platform Weibo.
Cypress's WICED Studio 4 Connectivity Kit is microcontroller (MCU)-independent and provides ready-made support for a wide range of third-party microcontrollers to meet the needs of complex IoT applications. The platform also provides a cost-effective solution for simple IoT applications by integrating microcontroller functions into connected devices. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth protocol stacks can run on the host microcontroller or in embedded mode, so a flexible platform architecture with common firmware can also be used.
Cypress is participating in the 2016 Munich International Electronics Show held at the Munich Exhibition Center in Germany from November 8 to 11, showcasing the latest WICED Studio 4 SDK and its complete IoT solutions for multiple application areas such as connected cars, industrial IoT, smart home appliances, wearable devices, etc. The booth number is A5 Hall 318. Cypress's complete IoT solution can help developers combine its most advanced Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and ZigBee® IoT connectivity solutions with its microcontrollers, PSoC® programmable system-on-chip and CapSense® capacitive sensing, analog power management IC (PMIC), USB connectivity solutions and high-performance storage to accelerate product launch.
